Hello everyone,

I've always wanted to make electronic music (especially the TD and Klaus Schulze style EM), but it was only recently that I obtained the technical means to be able to do that (FL Studio and its synthesizers).

The following track started out as a simple improvisation, but I liked some of the effects and tunes that I could get with it, so I expanded the track quite a bit over the next days. You can download it here:

Dark Gas Giant

It's supposed to evoke the atmosphere one would expect to "feel" from a really huge gaseous planet like Jupiter or Saturn, but outside our Solar system.

Sometimes when I listen to it, it sounds quite promising and I think I could really make this type of music. At other times I think it is just a nice improvisation and nothing more.

So I would like to hear your impartial opinion about this little EM track of mine. :)

My ultimate aim is to make progressive electronic music similar to Tangerine Dream and especially Klaus Schulze.

Hm? Nobody wants to give an opinion. Is it that bad or uninteresting?

Here is the latest version, which is a big improvement over the first one:

Well, I hope someone is going to review it.

I appreciate it a lot :)

Hey, I don't have time right now, but I've bookmarked the links and I'll listen/give you a post back sometime tomorrow.

Thanks guys. :)

Just don't expect anything polished and impeccable. It sounds a bit "dirty", as if it was an old, bootleg Tangerine Dream's concert recording or improvisation. But if you like TD's Richochet, you might like this.

I really like the atmospheres, and I think the sound is excellent! Clap It's a highly enjoyable work, definitely.

My knowledge of Tangerine Dream's music is very vague, I only have Stratosfear and a couple of other albums I've heard once, but if someone had played me this track I would've been sure it's TD. So in the long run, if you keep making this music (which you should), you should try to come up with something unique that makes people say that it's clearly a track by Vandonridge, not TD Wink But as I said I'm not an expert on TD, so perhaps it's there already.

Anyway - a really good piece Thumbs Up

I'm really liking this! I'm not at all familiar with most prog electronic stuff, although this is really good. You've got some awesome textures and atmosphere going! Really enjoying it. Keep it up and you could have a really solid album! Really good stuff man.

Send me a PM if you have any more, I'd love to hear it.

Pekka and progkidjoel, thank you so much for your reviews! You really made my day. :)

It really seems that most people agree the track sounds very much like early Tangerine Dream. This wasn't intentional on my part, it just kinda happened. But anyway I will try to develop my own style.

Of course I will notify you when other tracks are finished. :)

P.S. As a side note - The only thing that I find a bit depressing is that this type of music (old school progessive/krautrock electronic music) in general doesn't seem to be appreciated and listened to today as it was the case in the past. There are now a lot of very good videos on Youtube featuring some of the best old school electronic music musicians as well as newer talents (e.g. look for the videos of users zrnho and bellerob), but these videos get several hundred or maybe a thousand of views, while current pop music has millions of views.

However, nothing beats the pleasure of listening to a good piece of electronic music. That alone is worth some sacrifice for me, and I intend to continue to make music.

Hey guys,

If you liked that first track, please check out the new ones I've made :)

1)  Leaving It All

A predominantly monotonous tune which slowly builds up and evolves quite a lot. The main quality is the composition of layers and various instruments and atmospherics and not so much the melody itself. If it gets boring, skip to 8:00 and listen to the end. :)

This is my most Klaus Schulze inspired track. It is reminiscent of Crystal Lake, Timewind and perhaps Moonlake.

2) Secret Spacedrug Mine

http://www.vandonridge.com/music/downloads/secret%20spacedrug%20mine.mp3

This one is cheerful and melodic, and I think it is more trance-like. Still it is similar to older electronic music.

3) Nebula

This one is not finished yet, but since I used the emulation of the Moog synthesizer it is kinda interesting.

There are more tracks and you can see them all here:

I hope you enjoy them, and of course please let me know what you think about them!

Thanks!

I suppose you listened to the first track that was posted some time ago (Dark Gas Giant)?

I am really curious to know what you'll think about the newer tracks that I posted yesterday. :)
