No bass at all?  Funny, it seems to me that they have a good low end and I've been using them for a bit over a year now.

In general, you can't go wrong with Sennheisers, but the price range is get-what-you-pay for.

I have HD 280s, but given the chance I'd get $150+ headphones, likely Sennheiser HD series or Audio Technica ATH series.

Chances are if the company makes good microphones, (Sennheiser, AT, AKG, Shure) then they're not going to f**k up headphones and monitors. If you can afford Grados the holy sh*t yes.

And remember the golden rule of headphones: If you buy Skullcandys,

I WILL END YOU
.

brb buying Skullcandys.

They're supposed to have a very crisp low-end.

Looks like the Sennheisers might be your best bet if you want really good low end, but the high response for the Grados looks derricious, even if it spikes a lot. Those are all really good quality  curves, though.

My 280s work just fine for me now, but I'm going to think about buying some studio monitors when i can afford them. Headphones are good, but the sound interacting in the space of the room is better and healthier. It's pointless now because I do most of my listening on the computer, and it has a sh*t sound card.

I need, in order of approx priority:

1) new computer custom built: $1400 est.
2) reason/ableton live, price undecided
3) smaller MIDI controller, $100 ish
4) monitors, maybe $300 max I'm willing to spend on those
5) audio interface, price unknown
6) mic, price unknown

too.much.money

may i suggest you to whore yourself on the streets?

all i need is an open back and a new closed back, both desktops, nuff portables!.

my soundcard is sh*t too but i like to think i compansate that with my very modest amp ( no? )

are you saying open are more healthy than closed? and idk about the sound, for me the bassier the better, imo

I'd rather have a well-balanced sound than one with the bass boosted up.

Unless the hardcore audiophiles can prove otherwise, an amp cannot correct distortion, noise, and other imperfections introduced into the digital signal. The sound card and quality of audio files being played are the very first in line, so the amp won't help. hell it wouldn't really help even if it was before; the signal would be corrupted before it reaches you ears anyway. Your chain is only as strong as it's weakest link, and my weakest link is a pos sound card on a 11 year old Compaq computer, plus a few wires I know are sh*tty and a questionable amp, and a questionable set of speakers which are old and very lightweight, which is unsettling. Plus no subwoofer. Sad panda.

same with AKG

Bose is overpriced these days, become too well-known.  Sennheiser is approaching that status

I had AKG before this set of Sennheiser but they broke. Cry

I have 202s as well.  I'm not an audiophile but they sound great to me.
