To repeat: the military-industrial complex owns more than you dare imagine. (I know, I grew up in the 60's.) Ya'd best go listen to some 60's music, to understand what we all knew to well back then. Maybe start with Neil Young's Ohio.

A: What is "the military-industrial complex"? It sounds like an area-51 style bunker. B: Can you name a for profit company that is owned by the United States military?

I don't want the government having anything to do with private businesses.

By that I mean without military spending Boeing would be non-existent at this time.

Perhaps, or perhaps it would be active in other fields.
Most corn farmers and domestic sugar producers would be nonexistence without federal spending / protection. That doesn't mean it owns them.
Though of course I disagree with subsidies, protection laws, and the obscene amount of spending in the military domain.

At least we agree on obscene spending in the military domain. To compare corn farmers, subsidies and all, with one of the few industries we have the actually produces a trade surplus, is facetious. Boeing makes good jets, or in the case of the 787, if they can actually get it transportinjg people, that are productive to the customers. All I am saying is that the military $ subsidises the commercial, or at least keeps the wolf from the door during the bad times. I make no judgement as to the value of that.
Whatever, if g'ment/ military Hummers would have somehow kept GM alive, without bailout, I'd be good with Hummers.

Yeah, that is nice but I was talking about the US military literally owning companies. As in, hypothetically, all of Boeing's profits going directly to the military.
Though Pat and llama are opposed, as I figured

I am just paranoid enough to believe that they do actually own companies (maybe not Boeing...), said "profits" going to some other clandestine CIA/NSA front. There's cameras everywhere. I know,I know, this sort of paranoia is not necessarily known outside of Idaho and various midwest militia strongholds, but I have no doubt 'bout it...I lived in Wyoming. The whiskey's in the jar. And no, I'm not sitting here in my military khakis, no gun sitting on my lap nor rifle over my shoulder, waiting for the worst. No, I'm listening to some Dylan, maybe some Rush, maybe whatever comes up on the CD player next.

I bet you would, Teo. You'd love a reason why nobody should even think of voting Republican.
I have to say, in my case that would certainly work. I might be no big fan of Obama's, but if Palin becomes the prime R candidate . . . sorry, I'm voting Democrat.

Why would you have to be drunk to tap the Palin/O'Donnel ticket, Equality?
I'd hit that sh*t dead-sober any day.
