His two new singles "To Kill The Child" and "Leaving Beiruth" are great tunes and considering the fragmented release of several tunes (new material) on compilations and Live recordings (as in "In The Flesh" - "Each Small Candles"). The genius I`d like to reveal here is the power of prediction RW has concerning geopolitical predictions (as predictig the fall of the Berlin wall in RADIO KAOS) ! ___________ Lunar |

Very talented musician, and song writer. Genius? No. Sorry to be cynical but no one in rock or pop is a 'genius' IMO. Mozart was a genius. |

the thing about roger is he kept pink floyd going strong even if he pissed people off by being a little stuck up. also he can write about what life really is and has a real grasp for writing downer lyrics that really reflect on british life. he is a brilliant musician (mostly in his 67-79 floyd era) and he also managed to take over the floyd for most of it. a cunning man. so whether he is a genius or not is anyones call.

Which of us here could even aspire to write the lyrics that Waters creates.Imagine putting words to the torment whirling about inside that mind! Genius? Can't be far off. Who said that there was a fine line between genius and madness? |

I prefer Peter Hammill and Fish over Roger but who says there can't be multiple genius's so I'm on board as Roger being a lyrical genius(and a flaming liberal as well!)

im hopping on the "genius" wagon, i think his lyrics are powerful, at times depressing but thts not necessarily a bad thing. He is amazing. And you said something about his new singles? has he come out with a new cd?

One of my favorite lyricists ever, along the one and only Derek Dick and unpredictable Peter Gabriel... a genius is less to say, in my humble opinion.

He's a really good lyricist. I don't think he's that amazing of a bass player in my opinion though. Still, he's pretty groovy.

There are time spend in studio and a possible tour scheduled for the summer 2006 ! To Kill The Child and Leaving Beiruth are new recordings (Sept 2004 releases) I uhmm "got" them at E-Mule... I know I know . My personal opinion is that RW is a fabulous songwriter, with the finest emocional touch there can be. Depressing ? well yeah if you arent used to get in touch with that inner being you carry around. Mozart did also "flirt" with madness ! But the general response is sort of borderline here LOL. I'd definitly give him the Genius award ! ________ Lunar |

Actually I love Dogs.. and most other pre-TFC Waters compostions. However, I think during the Wall and TFC, his genius went by way of obsession.. and it clouded his talent. I'm also not fond of either of the new songs... altho I'm a little fonder of "To Kill a Child" than "Leaving Beirut".. And I think it was a pretty safe bet that the Berlin Wall was coming down... I also don't think that Roger was the essence of Floyd. I'm definintely more a David Gilmour fan in that I think Gilmour's guitar is genius without a doubt...and that AMLOR and TDB.. regardless of who wrote lyrics, are inspirational... I'm sure he was a school boy at one point... and other than that... I'd drink tea with his vicar... if he played for me while I did! |

Roger Waters has released two new songs on the internet, 'To Kill The Child & Leaving Beirut. The songs can be listened to via various stream formats here www.roger-waters.com and can be purchased (as from Tuesday 7th September) via legal download sites such as itunes, Sony Connect and Walmart.com. The songs have been described by Roger Waters as being, "Politically relevant to release now," and the songs have been described as advance works in progress. 'Leaving Beirut is a 12 minute epic, which describes a journey Roger made when he was in his youth. Roger Waters said recently in an interview, "I'm working on a rock n roll record and I wrote, inevitably I wrote some, two or three new songs; as a response to America and Great Britain invading Iraq. One of my songs is actually written against the back drop of a short story I wrote, fifteen years ago about, when I was a kid, I with some friends in 1961 or 62 drove an old ambulance to Baghdad, we didn't actually reach Baghdad it finally broke down on the road to Damascus outside Beirut." Watch a video interview of Roger Waters talking about the two new songs here. So we left Beirut Willa and I ___________ Lunar |
