Samandriel is a very melodic metal band from my city, with elements of power metal in their music but also parts that are very progressive - tempo changes and odd time signatures in very much the same manner of Dream Theater. They've got a very good drummer - the influence Neal Peart has on him is evident because of how many cymbals he has! - and an extremely powerful, operatic female singer They've got a self-published album pending release in August Edited by Captain Clutch - June 21 2010 at 18:12 |

Little more about them:
Their influences include "Iron Maiden, Kamelot, Fates Warning, Nightwish, Rush, Into Eternity, Darth Vader, J.S. Bach, Carl Orff, Paganini, Nature, Beer, Sonata Arctica, After Forever, Ensiferum, Wintersun, Kiuas, Kalmah, The Force, Universe, Epica, good Fantasy and Sci-Fi, John Williams, Danny Elfman, Video Games, and many other things." Their EP is currently being mastered by Jacob Hansen (Tyr, Falconer, Mercenary, Beyond Twilight, Heaven Shall Burn, Anubis Gate, Volbeat, etc) Umm... That's all. |

News - their songs are back from being remastered in Denmark (by Jacob Hansen), so an album release should be fairly soon

Hey mates, thanks for the kind words. Jeff Black here, I play keyboards for Samandriel.
A bit about the record we are releasing...
The EP "Awakening" that we are releasing was recorded in my basement, and was engineered/mixed by our drummer, Jeff Church with a handful of mics and a laptop. I'd say it turned out great, considering all the setbacks and our shoe-string budget! The songs themselves were written mainly by Oskar (guitars) and Hoops (bass) before the other members joined, and then everyone added their own elements to the arrangements. All the songs that are written after this point are more of a group effort, and there is a difference in the technicality, and depth of the compositions. However, we still carry the same melodic style and atmosphere so if you like the songs from our EP, you'll LOVE what we will be releasing next!
In regards to the actual release of the disk:
After many frustrating delays, the EP is finally (completely) finished and we expect to have the CDs in our hands by the middle of September. The actual release date of the CD in Edmonton will be October 15th and we will be throwing a big release party gig at Edmonton's Starlite Room that day. Support will come from Calgary's Viathyn and Edmonton's Sonorus Odium. We'll be in Calgary the following weekend to release the disk there, but our promoter has some other surprises in store, so I can't spill any more beans on that! We'll also be getting a full new line of merch with some great artwork as well.
If anyone was interested in buying the disk, we'll be selling them for 10 dollars in person (at gigs, or if you happen to run into us around) or 15 dollars if we have to ship them somewhere.
Thanks for the comments and for spreading the word!
Jeff B
