Certain people using drugs as a way to enhance the talent and skill they already had is very different from telling people to start popping pills so that they will turn into musical geniuses. For people like me who aren't afraid of drugs, those lines are clearly defined already. The picture never implied anything otherwise in my mind.

Actually that's your brain on doughnuts and I'm thinking working at a nuke plant hasn't helped much. |

So, people are taking drugs so they can peer into mirrors and feel bad-ass?
I've changed my mind. Ban 'em all. We have enough self-righteous, vain jackasses running around loose already.

Well, the one on top doesn't appear to be truly playing but just staging a jump for a publicity photo that he couldn't likely pull off in a live setting. The one below looks like he's playing something intense and concentrating. Witness the utter lack of the background in the first and the obvious concert stage background in the second.

Oh, dear. I think I posted those comparison photos months ago and look how they are misinterpreted.
For those who are unfamiliar with "your brain on drugs", they are famously-parodied television commercials that were supposed to scare you off of using drugs. A narrator would hold up an egg, and say, "this is your brain". Then he would crack the egg and sizzle it in a frying pan and say, "and this is your brain on drugs". The commercial has been parodied and mocked a thousand times, my photos of Jonas Bros and Hendrix are just one more spoof. If there was a serious angle to it, it was to demonstrate the difference between people who are fearful of authority and believe what they are told, vs. people who take chances and live by their own rules. It is especially ironic and funny that most of the people who didn't get the joke are staunchly anti-marijuana. While I respect your commitment to a clean body and clean mind, it is perfectly healthy for you to lighten up and have a sense of humor. A lack of a sense of humor is associated with more health problems such as high blood pressure and heart problems, than even marijuana. Edited by jplanet - October 23 2010 at 19:04 |

I wasn't aware it was a parody since the original infomercial never aired over here, but that hasn't changed my interpretation of the images, nor has your explanation. I still see a poser kid who thinks he plays like Hendrix when he's had a toke or two, and that's reeeeeeal funny as long as you don't have to listen to him play.
I haven't stated my position on marijuana one way or the other in this thread and don't intend to either

LOL! Then, by all means, I leave you and the others to enjoy your interpretations! (And yours does sound quite entertaining!)

I remember the commercials and thought that though they were attention catching though ineffective scare tactic commercials. What brain your drugs are on is extremely important because all brains and drugs aren't the same. I do have this very funny poster mocking the ad campaign. It has an array of pictures of cast iron skillets with various messed up eggs to represent the various celebrities in the captions. |

For me marijuana should be legalized in countries where it is prohibited only if they legalized all the other mind altering substances, including psychiatric medicaments (or at least the ones with effects similar than marijuana). Since I know no one who uses marijuana with other purposes other than have his mind affected (different from tobacco and alcohol), if that concept is fine, government should legalize any mind altering substance. After all, the policies must be coherent.

Yes, because people who drink alcohol don't do it to get drunk, or anything.
Marijuana is already being used medicinally in certain areas, and I know of plenty of folks who smoke it just as a way to relax. They're not all out there getting high off their ass.

I understand that, but he spoke about it as if nobody ever abuses alcohol. A huge majority of drinkers do, and they do it just to get their 'mind altered' from the effects. Add to that the fact that marijuana has a much less severe effect on most folks who smoke it when compared to so many of the violent drunks we run into, I think akin's naive post was worth addressing.

No, I didnīt say that. You invented this meaning on my post. Naive was your post, who only measures positive things in marijuana and negative things on other drugs. I never drinked alcohol and loath any alcoholic beverage and if depended only on me, it would be banned forever, but researches say moderate use of alcohol, in fact, improves the quality of life and even the life expectancy, which is light-years better than the medicinal usage of marijuana. Even so, the benefits of marijuana should be turned into a safe medicine, not provided by smoking filter-less cigarettes which have the dangerous effects of smoking (and I loath smoking the same way as drinking alcohol). And if marijuana is useful to relax, why not taking a psychiatric medicine to relax? Why selling them is so restricted and controlled? Because people would abuse this "mind-altering" substance? Hmmmm..... |

I never said marijuana was all good. I don't even smoke the stuff. Saying it should be illegal because you personally find it stupid or morally wrong to do without taking into account all of the additional negative factors that would go away with its legalization . . . that's naivete, in my book. The positives of legalizing this drug far outweigh the negatives. Go look into it. If you still wish to keep it out of free people's hands for your own reasons, then that's not only naive; it's also pretty selfish in my book.

I don't know, but stoners are really annoying so there is an element of spite in any decision I make about it.
