Topic: Classic Prog Band Needs KEYS Posted: June 10 2010 at 13:09 |
Hey all, just lost keyboardist to health reasons. We are Downing Grey and new band that is in the final stages and was scheduled to do the final full stage pratice session to fine tune the PA and set the effects racks and coordinate the show and the set lists. We are in search of keyboardist who can play his parts of this monster prog project that covers the best of....Yes, Gensis, Elp, Gentle Giant, King Crimson, UK, Pink Floyd, Rush, Tull, Focus, Atomic Rooster and even a Zep tune or two. We have everything you can imagine a band like this needs we just need the talent behind the keys. Bring us The LAmb, Fith of Fifth and South Side of the Sky and we can finish building this band fast. Won't matter how far apart we are once we get playing regualrly. We have agency connections and will redo the promo packs and be signed for the tribute band circuit through this route.
Please contact if you have any interest and the talent to help. This is a great oppertunity for the right person.

Ya know I find it baffling at this point that I have yet to find the people needed to put a great show like that pays tribute to classic prog itself.....all of it....in any one night. If I can only find the musicians who will take a chance because they love this music how do I expect to sell an agency that there is an audience waiting to hear some of the best of Yes, Genesis, and so many others all in one night?
I seriously have found people who like the idea then bow out...either because they really can't do it or they are not willing to try and see if there is a market for this.
I am still in need of someone who can play the work of the likes of Rick Wakeman, Patric Moraz, Tony Banks, Kerry Minnear, Thijs van Leer, Keith Emerson, Richard Wright, Tony Kay, Eddy Jobson and more.
My god this should be a great keyboardists dream band, but there sure ain't no one lining up to get involved. We are from upstate NY area. We have worked with and traveled to musicians from as far away as Rochester to the west and Chappaqua to the South of this state. Our parts are spot on perfect and we have three hours worth of material now but keep loosing the keys to a series of unfortunate events.
If you have any talent if you have any time and a love for this music we plan to finsinh this band take it on the road through an agency and compete with as many of the prog tribute band out there now who are covering only one of these great bands in one night and give them a run for their money. We also plan to finish our own CD's and offer them to the audiences we will alrady have and begin our originals attempt this way whiel the tribute band continues to work and pay bills.
Help us out here, we have excellent talents that are waiting and determioned to see this happen.

A music forum dedicated to Prog Music doesn't mean a forum to "search for musicians to play prog".
It's not odd that nobody in the forum is apt for your request.
We're simply fans of music, yes some play instruments, be it that they're good or bad, I doubt you'll find one that can play what you request and that lives in your area. If you find one here, you're a lucky chap.
Just saying.

Like I said a desperate cry for HELP.
Frankly since I have been loooking everywhere else.... a prog forum is one place to look. And actually not a bad choice..... I am not completely sure how your message helps me or anyone on the site and I don;t know how you would feel you have an opinion about the musicians in my area and who I might find. ...?... I sure would not know anything about your area. You did seem to take this personally somehow. I was just hoping I;d get one person who might even know someone who has a nice old B-3 in the cellar and not doing anything with it...
OK.
Thanks for letting me post.

^huh? I didn't take anything of your post personal, I was just providing you some "helpful info" so you could realise why nobody has posted here (yet).
I didn't mean that musicians on your area aren't skillful, I was just saying that it would be real luck to find someone from your area that plays keyboards greatly that frequents this forum.
Sorry if I offended you, it wasn't my intention.

Too bad you're not in Seattle. I know a guy that plays keys and guitar and can't find anyone up there to play any prog or experimental with.

(This is a Musicians forum, no?)
I play FoF, Suppers Ready, Close to the Edge, on my digital piano/organ, at home, in... Portugal.
I too dream of creating a ensemble dedicated to play great prog works.
Good luck.

I'm a keyboard player that loves and plays 'prog' (whatever that means), but I'm on the other side of the planet. Besides, even I were close, I wouldn't accept the offer - I mean no offense, but I prefer rehearsals where new songs and ideas are worked out (not necessarily mine). Any I wouldn't be up to the task anyway. I respect people who do covers - but that requires both technical skills/knowledge and a specific sensibility. I guess that's why it's so difficult to find such a musician. Good luck though.
