John by far. He has such a great desperate edge to his voice. Paul's voice is too smooth for me.

Really don't mind if you sit this one out.
My words but a whisper, your deafness a shout.

Helter Skelter, Oh! Darling, Back In The U.S.S.R. are perhaps lucid exceptions.

Paul. Now let's discuss who was the best dressed. Later, we can get down to business more along the lines of PROG!!

John voice (1962 - 1966) is still a pattern for too many singers.

Oh, yeah. And he had a big influence on Italian prog, too.

Paul for melody, Lennon for more rocky tunes, Harrison for dreamy moments, Starkey for when I need to go to the men's room...

Here's another vote for John. He was always my, as they said back then, fave. Lennon was pissed off from day one, and you could hear it in every song.
Not knocking McCartney, who can deliver a rocker with the best (I'm Down, for example).

Can you tell me where we're headin'?
Lincoln County Road or Armageddon.

Oh John! John was always my favourite, the mystical angry freak. George became my fave in later cerebral times, but for visceral angst and true leftwing artistry, it's gotta be John (and I hear it in his voice). He always takes a lyric and makes it more unusual. Paul has a way of making stuff more normal. But, I enjoy him as well. However, John is the avatar!

George Harrison has a terrible voice IMO, relative to the main beatles leads.
McCartney has a gift for singing and it really comes out in later Beatles albums over Lennon's. McCartney's songwriting also came over Lennon's frequently as well. I don't know why he couldn't have had a more fruitful solo career, he just didn't take himself very seriously.

While I think that Paul has the best voice, I enjoy John's singing more. The rawness of it is appealing--more of a rocker, I suppose, though I know that Paul can let it rip when he wants to.

I'm pretty biased toward John. He gets my vote.
