Nm broham, weekend time is now, so I'm just gonna chill for tonight. You? |
Chilling sounds good.
Also, see the 5th post on this page. |
Ah, sweet. I haven't been gaming at all since I got to college until I got Fallout New Vegas a few days ago. Now I'm back to geekin' it up, but I still try to spend as much time doing that as practicing guitar.

I don't feel the need to play video games at all.

Matt, there are a lot of things you don't do that you really ought to as well.

It's these sort of comments that my previous post was alluding to. Scott doesn't quite like a lot of certain kinds of music, same with Brian or Juan, same with Drew, same with everyone. It's natural. Not everyone will like every music they ever hear. I STILL don't really like the Beach Boys or the Rolling Stones (even after hearing their most acclaimed albums), and it's okay. It's not a matter of forcing yourself to like anything. It's a matter of trying to learn and understand how to appreciate different forms of expression.
I used to agree ENTIRELY that Dark Side and all of Pink Floyd was boring. If you look back to earlier posts I've made on this forum, you would see that. But I've since come to appreciate all sorts of expression and I would never dream of calling them that now, even though they're still far from being one of my favorite bands. I believe this essential album project really was the last step towards helping me accomplish that, and I've had no trouble listening to all of these albums back to back.
It's really fascinating, to be able to hear all sorts of different slices of history and people represented through mere sound waves.
But it's not my loss if other people don't enjoy the same things I do, or vice versa. I think people get way too caught up in all of that. I understand that Scott doesn't like Henry Cow, or that Juan thinks Pink Floyd is boring. It doesn't matter. All that I have tried to accomplish with the list is to allow people to have the same opportunity that I have had: to uncover these priceless experiences and perhaps form some great memories. This is also what PA is all about, and I think it's sometimes easy to forget. It was my time away from here that made me realize this.
| I won't begrudge you your list, even if I don't agree with much of it. My liking or disliking Henry Cow aside, I would argue that outside of Prog Rock or avant rock they are completely unknown and probably have nil in influence, whereas King Crimson's In the Court of the Crimson King has influenced Kanye West. You mention Red influence grunge 20 years before its time. Not sure that I agree with that. Interestingly, I've never understood Neil Young as the godfather of grunge moniker either, although it is good to see 1 of his albums make your list. I do argue that 21st Century Schizoid Man created progressive metal 30 years before its time. But I digress....my reason for making this post was the time capsule curiosity of seeing what you will think of this list 10, 20, or 30 years from now. Certainly some of these albums will still have much importance, but I think that a number of them you will probably look back on and wonder what you were thinking when you added them to the list. |
Oh, I understand that, and I entirely understand the argument that I perhaps ranked that album too low. Inevitably, it's not ALL historical influence, I also went for some other factors; music's not like science where you can say I used "this much percentage" of something to rank these albums or whatever. I'm sure I used slightly different parameters throughout my list. I also agree that making this list decades from now, it could be different, without a doubt. It'll be interesting to see how music develops. I think I did well though, nonetheless, given the fact that such a task was difficult to begin with, haha.

Praise yourself a lucky cat. Videogames are one of the things that might be able to cause the apocalypse.

I've been biking earlier today, which was good.
Also, I am considering myself to be a gamer more and more again after 2 years or so with no gaming. Playing Final Fantasy III a lot these days. Well, not a lot, but I play it. |
That's cool. I game from time to time. I never really got into Final Fantasy much, it's on my to do list.

Last night I had a very intense dream, which I can recall very well.
It started out in a forest, or maybe rather an artificial forest-like place. There was a small creek flowing and around it a group of people were making music. Surprisingly, I can still recall the music that was played by the people. It was noisy, psychedelic music, much like the album I'm listening to at this moment (Guru Guru's Ufo). The bassist and guitarist also provided the vocals, which basically were a whispered kind of dialogue. The drummer did not have a drum kit, but instead smashed a big guitar amp with his sticks. Oddly enough it sounded like the toms of a drum kit.
At a certain point in the jam of these people the drummer played a solo. While doing this, all the sudden a girl who stood near the creek collapsed and fell into the water. She was dead and this somehow felt to me like the death of someone close to me.
I did not have a role in the dream myself up to that point. But suddenly I had, and together with the drummer from the group of musicians I wanted to discover why the girl died all the sudden. The performance was filmed and in the catacombs of some college building there was a pretty small cinema. We played the recording over and over again to find out why she collapsed, but we couldn't find anything. Also, the more we watched the film, the more unclear it became.
