Hello sock!

I'm leaving.

Hey man! Alright, see you later. I'm just around for a bit; I'll be here on and off all day I imagine.

And, Matt, yeah, I'll have to hear it soon. As soon as my marathon's over, I suppose. I having  growing list of things to hear after my essential albums marathon now. LOL

How's the marathon going?

Pretty well, every album has been superb (naturally). I'm on #61, which happens to be Boston's debut. Looking forward to Sigur Ros, Amon Tobin, and Tool following that.

What is the deal with this marathon?  Did you rank the albums or did it come from somewhere else?

I ranked them. It took a lot of time and effort (listening to all sorts of albums, thinking about it in the back of my head over a period of months, etc.), but I finally came up with a list I was really happy with.

This is the list: http://rateyourmusic.com/list/MovingPictures07/150_essential_albums__music_everyone_should_hear/

Regardless of genre taste, (metal, prog, jazz, classical, world music!)
St Anger is a must

Nice list.  I'm going to assume there's no Henry Cow on it because not everyone would enjoy it, right?

It is indeed a good list Alex.

Agree with a good number.

I could never make one, well probably...but it'd drive me insane doing so.

Change the program inside... Stay in silence is a crime.

Western Culture is at #91.

Thanks!

Actually, Henry Cow is on there, but they're at #91. I tried to rank them in order of absolute importance, influence, historical significance, uniqueness, and with inevitably a bit of subjectivity leaking in.

Because, regardless of personal taste, I believe those particular albums made a significant impact in music history and should be heard by everyone at least once.

DSOTM isn't even my favorite Floyd album. But it's an essential listen for anyone, I would say.
