I think I may disappear for a while.  I'm just in a weird mood today and want to hibernate for a while.

I'll stay for a bit but my posting maybe intermittent as I'm playing harmonica and watching television and just randomly browsing the Internet.

Has anyone played New Vegas yet?  It's out today in England.  I've never played Fallout 3 but maybe tempted to if New Vegas is any good, as it's made by Obsidian and some of my favourite RPG writers.

I play nothing but Zelda 3, and NHL 95 when my bro is around.

I bought it two days ago.

James, normally I'm not a big RPG guy but trust me when I say that Fallout 3 has one of THE most addicting gameplay formulas.  It's well worth it, I probably put at least 300 hours into three different playthroughs for Fallout 3.

It's unplayable on pretty much any PC using an nVidia GPU, apparently. When any NPC's are on screen it slows down to about 10 FPS, regardless of system specs. It can be fixed for some chipsets using the nVidia Alpha drivers, though. It's fine with AMD cards, AFAIK. The console versions run fine, although are still buggy as sh*t, thanks to Obsidian.

I've played it for about an hour on a friend's xbox, it was 99% the same as Fallout 3. Imagine a buggier version of Fallout 3 with down-the-sights aiming and a new map, although it's still pretty fun.

I'm mostly curious about the story and characterisation, rather than gameplay.

Oh and do you need Fallout 3 to run it or is it stand-alone?  I thought it was an expansion but my mate says it's not.

Well there's no end to the amount of quests and characters you can meet, but as far as depth and intrigue go, the story is probably lacking.

Nope, totally different game.  Although from what I've played so far it's pretty much a gigantic expansion pack for Fallout 3.

That's disappointing.  If there's one thing Obsidian are usually good at, it's stories and characters.

Hmm.

So no transference of gear or anything from Fallout 3?

I guess it's useful though if I play Fallout 3 first?  Or is it completely new in story as well?
