The Impaler was Vlad Tepes, if I'm not mistaken.

But as I was saying, Vlad Dracul was Wallachian.

He ruled in Wallachia, but was from Transylvania.

Edit - Wait! Vlad Dracul was The Impaler's dad.

My mistake.  It was a few years ago that I was reading about them all.  My memory has forgotten all the connections.

I think he was a Voivod as well though?

Yuss! In Wallachia too, if memory serves.LOL

See, they're more associated with Wallachia than Transylvania.  Silly old Bram Stoker and his stories.

Probably not.  I think they're only just okay, and they're only proggy on like 3 of their albums.  It's prog thrash metal.

I've been latently fascinated by the whole Dracula story ever since I read "The Historian"by Elizabeth Kostova.

was he a hero or was he a horrible person Ermm

it dipends on which part of the conflic you were on, the Ottomanian saw him as a monster, the Hungarian saw him probably both as a nice fellow, but also a tad annoying, the wallachian (or transilvanians) saw him as a hero.

Indeed.  There's a copy of the book somewhere at my parents house.

Oh and speaking of Dracula, The History of Horror series is on BBC Two. LOL  This is followed by a Dracula film.

Ah.

Definitely not a good age to try and read those, I think. LOL I got to the chapter that is all about whaling before I couldn't take it anymore, and took the quiz on the book anyway and failed, but the program was still telling me I had a college reading level, so it was OK. LOL
