Honestly, I don't like it. It is too busy and doesn't seem very professional to me. I like the simplicity of the old one.

Nope, that's not the right word either. Twiddling? Fiddling? Tweaking? Any of those words would actually make sense.

I guess I never really liked the old one either, especially the whole purple-dominated theme, but the header was preferable to what's currently there.
I guess I don't come to this site for the color schemes.

I'm against using iconography such as album cover references in the header. It reeks of nostalgia, the very opposite of the progressive spirit.

Collages are much to busy for a website header, the images floating in space look contrived and gestalt is totally lacking, floating camels don`t really belong with giant heads etc. Less is usually better, cleaner lines and a website wants people to go deeper off that first home page and a collage does not lend itself to that concept, maybe the forum page but no to the home page.

After getting over the initial shock, I think I like it. I was ok with the old one . Could it be that I'm actually REgressive?

this is a loooooong thread so i wont read everyones opinion
Best one is this:
it is easier to read - simple as that
its better balanced with two faces and its symmetrical and easy on the eye. its way better than the tired old one so definitely an improvement and I was delighted to see the new look - it is fantastic your talents are being used in this way.
But if its too busy it cant be read easily and this is least busy
the colour scheme is closest to vilet, and you need some purple I believe as thats the colour of the actual site banners. I love the orange and purple as its so recognizable to this site and you know where you are when you have purple and orange banners.
perhaps take out about 3 images as busy is not necessary better
and just blend in the images as you know how to do into some kind of scenario and by the way, get rid of the King Crimson face no matter what - how many ruddy sites use this? We want to be more original than that. Blend in classic prog with some new stuff so its easily recognizable. I like the spacey prog artwork in particular so include that.
The faces on either side are interesting but who are they? Could you change those to perhaps more recognizable images - such as Clearlight's face or other...?
Magma is a nice touch so include that, images are too small on the left side and hard to recognise unless you are a prog addict.... the right side looks great though, the spaceships and sky blue are nice.
Wow, I sound like a school teacher - any way it deserves an A
go for it! you have the magic touch

Having said all that I rechecked what the currect banner looks like in comparison to the rest of the page and its way more eye catching than the old version.
Is it possible to rotate the banners you have done on a monthly basis - make up 12 and use them on a rotational basis?
Too radical?
I dont know as there are ways of doing things.
Create a new one and see how that goes... be more radical than mere images of album covers - you might surprise yourself there.
in any case its great you are being used above others as you are loyal to the site and care more than a mere designer who is out for money and doesnt care about Prog.
Well done!
EDIT: This current version is starting to grow on me now, After a break I revisited it and loved it. haha its like prog - it grows on you with every viewing.... the images are so recognizable and clear as its undisputed as to what is there, any progger would recognize them. Maybe its just too busy. Thats the prolem i think and the colour is too vibrant so try same collage with different background colours - try purple, mauve, light blue or orange..... could be weird but worth a go.
last post here for now....

I would have thought it would have been much more popular.
Right then, I choose the option that is the exact opposite of whatever the minority least dislikes.

The blue one which Scott likes (and I totally agree with him) would also make an excellent banner for our private websites. Can this be arranged too ? And for all your efforts, Abel

Thank you soooooo much for saying that Scott , as many many many members don't know that or didn't realize that at all . Prog is my world since I was 13 years old. I am 40 years old man. from a very humble land called the Dominican Republic. I don't do these collages or these graphic work for money but for pure and genuine love.

I'll try and avoid low doorways. I'm actually 6 foot 2˝. Should I avoid small public lavatory stalls as well?
