PLEASE, PT, release this gig as a live album. I implore you!

This feels like the end of an era for the band. The start of a bigger one, perhaps. I'm sure next year the guys will take a well-earned break from touring and recording, and pursue solo activities. After making four metal-influenced albums, perhaps after the break, they'll come back fresh and with an entirely new sound?

The setlist for RAH is very similar to that of Radio City Music Hall, though of course they had to change it up a bit - I really hope that they do eventually release it as a live CD, or at least as a high quality flac fownload.  ;-)

I feel the same way, and it is punctuated by SW's own comment in a recent interview that he is now listening to "everything but metal".

It will be very interesting indeed to see where the next PT album goes, because I have a feeling it won't be like any of the albums that have gone before.  Of course, all their albums have tread new ground, but I think this may be even more of a departure than usual, even for them.

All speculation at this point.

Yeah, I love the IA/DW/FOABP/TI flavour of PT, but I feel its time for a new era! They've been on this one for four albums now. One thing I love about this band is the reinvention. They've had three main 'eras' now: OTSOL through to Signify; Stupid Dream and Lightbulb Sun; and IA to present.

I am very interested in hearing what will come next. SW's comments about listening to anything but metal may hint at an entirely new direction for the next album.

If we've learned anything from Rush, its that constant reinvention is necessary for a band to truly endure through the decades.

My friend went to the RAH and said it was filmed. And also SW apparently suggested the film is going to get released at some point on disc.

I think PT may have been pulling our collective leg(s) when they said the RAH wouldn't be filmed. You do not play in the RAH without filming or at least recording it, for posterity. Something about that venue is always conducive to great performances. I bought Camel's live recording at the Albert Hall of the Snow Goose album today, and its superb. So is the Opeth Live at the Albert Hall DVD. I have no doubt PT were similarly spectacular. Can't wait for the inevitable live release of this!

i can honestly say that i enjoy pretty much everything they've put out since the debut but i'd like to see an album that would completely un-metal, very "light" but intense, very electronic and with lots of melodies and colours. quite un-proggy with 4-6 minutes long songs, (imo) that usually works best, but the incident was great tooBig smile

Yippee!!!  Clap

I am still surprised that there will apparently be no video release of the entire performance of The Incident song cycle, but I am very happy that the RAH gig was filmed - home town boys made good!!!

Perhaps an earlier full performance of The Incident will be included as an extra on the special edition release, or at least as a release to the fan club.

Now THAT would be a great ROABP disc... Although I'll probably end up with it if it's only in the sp. ed. too

I remember SW mentioning (perhaps on the PT twitter a few months ago?) that they'd previously record The Incident live, but they didn't have enough for a DVD yet or something.

I remember that too. It wasn't even that long ago. Basically he was just telling us to wait, as it's surely going to come out. Smile

Changing a bit the subject: dont u think that Porcupine Tree is the lost link between Nu Metal and Progressive? I mean, some years ago when a friend of mine told me that Systen of Down was "Prog" my first reaction was mockery. But, today, listening to some PTīs tracks i can realise that the band gave a new contribution to Prog by making suitable some Nu Metal ranges (far way better than Systen, of course). When I listen to tracks like Deadwing, Mother & Child Divided or even The Sound Of Muzak i almost hear Jonathan Davisī vocal on my  unconscious (lol!). But i think this quite a part of the envolving sound of the band, cause in the pre-InAbsentia phase the band emerge to some industrial metal atmospheric, but i think it was with In Absentia that they consolidate a style close to Nu Metal IMO. Of couse, this was an original appropriation of the style (with nothing of rapcore lol) in a alternative metal sound.

I remember that too - if I remember correctly, he said that it was the Chicago show that was recorded, which struck me at the time because Arriving Somewhere was also recorded during their Chicago shows.

Here's to hoping!!!  Clap

Great pics, Eugenio! I am adding you as a friend on Flickr. Were they made on film? The nice granulation could come from either film or the low light...

Edit: now I see you mentioned a Nikon D80 there, so it must have been digital.Smile

Everyone get a copy of the Tim Smith (of Cardiacs) tribute album! Tim Smith is a genius, and SW and Oceansize contribute to the album!

Oh yeah, forgot about that! I am still waiting for Insurgentes DVD, and for the Opeth vinyl Albert Hall boxset. That shipped weeks ago from Roadrunner. i'm starting to get a little concerned about that parcel. If it came from the US, I can understand (post from the USA takes ages to get here).
