I have played Alan Wake. The gameplay was okay but I really enjoyed the story, which was more than enough to keep me pushing forward.
Some video games are absolutely impossible to put down because the stories are so goddamned good.

that's how I felt about the John Defoe series. A bunch of bloody Point-n-click games, with MS paint graphics, that managed to scare the crap out of me anyway |

Stories are the one thing I really look for in a game nowadays, if it doesn't have a good story I'll get hella bored super quickly.

If it's got good action or fun gameplay and a good online it's usually worth the purchase, but games with really, really good stories are few and far between.
