Saw this on Wayside yesterday. Looks fantastic. Certainly going to get one of those two albums soon.

Quiet here.
I received the four new Altr0ck releases in the mail (cheers, Marcello) and I will review them all (I have 14 albums in line and I am highly busy at work so it might take a little while), but I have to say that the new Rational Diet is superb. This band seems to get better from one album to the next, taking whatever they did in their previous album, building on that, improving and renewing their sound a bit. They sound fresh, powerful, intricate and very appealing. |

Hey Assaf, how are you?! I've heard only the Aranis thus far [wonderful]; the other 3 are on order: can't wait! Have to say I think I agree [from the other 2 anyway] re Rational Diet! Do you know when the new titles slated for Soleil Zeuhl are due out [Bringolf & Noa! ] -such bated breath ;)! |

NHX is pretty cool imo. It is heavy on the techno drums, and I imagine that might put some prog "purists" off, but it's very sharp and high energy/intense & tight. |

Hi Claire, I'm fine, busy, but fine. How are you? I had a brief listen of Yugen's new album as well, a lot to "digest" but I sense I'm going to love it as well. I don't know the release dates for the Soleil Zeuhl titles, I only saw the announcements by Alain, but I'm as eagerly awaiting them. |

I like the idea of mixing the "fake" drums with real ones. At the very least I'm interested where they can take it. And the underlined phrase is excellent indeed! Would you recommend the first or second to start with?

Listening to the RD right now for the first time...I like it. Better than their second for sure. And it does seem like a very successful cross of their first two albums (with new sounds/etc built in).
I haven't ordered the Arainis yet, but of the other two its a tough call to say which one I prefer. Yugen's album is excellent. Cloudscape would certainly be in my top five songs of the year (if I could ever make such a list). PdP's really surprised me with how good it is. Obviously I was expecting it to be excellent, but it really impressed me on listen one. Must be all those Yugen people there. ![]() Edited by Man With Hat - October 09 2010 at 16:30 |

LOL - ah, a man after my own heart! ;)
That's difficult as I liked them both - gave each an 11 on Gnosis* I suppose the second if I had to choose...but I would have to listen to them again side by side to be sure. [Helpful aren't I ?1 ; )] *"11: Excellent. While not a classic, an album that is very enjoyable and an important part of ones collection. We recommend that raters not give grades higher than 11 on the very first listen." |

Hahaha. Well, I would say yes. I mean that essentially tells me that they are both excellent and that I really can't go wrong with either. Maybe I'll flip a coin.
![]() As for Neurotica...its just through the neon heat disease. Its a great roaring city full of garbage eaters ravaging parking spots beneath ny plaza window.

Indeed. Depends on one's taste of course. It is quite techno [Discogs describes it as "Future Jazz, Breakbeat, Drum n Bass"]
lol! ny[c]? I lived there for a decade, got too expensive for this "starving artist" though :( Very love-hate in my experience. Cultural Hub of course, and delicious gigs galore, but I like my [relative of course ;)] peace; also this sensualist missed the oft'time sublimity of nature too... |

Future jazz sounds about right from what I read. Though I guess thats what you get for using programmed drums! Sounds cool though. I'm not opposed to techno.
And bah! Slight typo on my part.
![]() Though I certainly try and take adventage of the music scene there. I'm glad to live so close when KC, VDGG, or Magma decide to come through on their very limited US tours. ![]() ![]() Edited by Man With Hat - October 09 2010 at 20:29 |

Ah, I get that very well - I'm from Jersey [Princeton]. I'm in Pitts.now, and though I love how cheap it is, bands I want to see rarely, rarely come here. Let me tell you, I miss that! Did you see VDGG?! I missed them here as I was away :( I haven't seen KC since the Discipline tour [they were actually in Princeton! ] I watched the 1st show and was so floored I climbed in the 2nd story window of the hall to see the 2nd show [I had no more moola]. [wow, did i just age myself there or what!?;)] After that lp, Crimson just seemed repetitive & disappointed me; though I would no dbt go to a show if... They remain my all-time favorite band [Red is my greatest love, Fripp my "god" ;)]. Do you ever shop at Downtown Music Gallery? My friend Manny is co-owner - they work a lot w/ Zorn. He mans the door [no pun...] at the Stone Sunday ngts I think. |

Oh, nice! I'm a bit more north (Woodbridge, NJ). (Ironically I have a friend who almost moved out to Pitts o'er the summer.) The music scene in NYC is certainly one thing that keeps me tied here in NJ. I don't plan to move far, but we shall see how that does. And yes I did see VDGG!
![]() ![]() As for KC...hahaha damn! Thats a great story! Probably would have attempted the climb myself.
![]() ![]() ![]() Nice connection! I've bought a couple things from DMG (which I almost always read as DGM

I was in Woodbridge once upon a time - we went to see one of the "1st malls in nj" there! [lol - Can you imagine Jersey w/out malls? I think it may be the definition... ;) Well, yea industrial stink/armpit I know...Funny because it really is ridden with such immensely lush natural beauty in a lot of areas...] re VDGG - well, I can only hope they return someday... I'll make damned sure not to miss it again if they do! Yes, I adore Discipline too [one of the 2 first CDs I ever bought]. ["Alive then?" Lordy boy, how old are you?! you must be a youngun'!] Well, maybe I will have to give some of their later stuff another chance one o' these days...;) Yes, I'm rather a Squidco lass myself these days as I buy online & the shipping's better. Dave Kerman of ReRusa has free shipping, so it's great if he has what your looking for. [I was talking about the shop in the "real"* as opposed to virtual world though.] Also ZNR is good as shipping is free over $40. spent [frigging easy enough lol!] Squid moved to NC recently I believe...? *I place the word "real" in quotes as i've often found it a rather dubious concept myself...;) Well. nice to "meet" you sir Hat. [Do you like Slapp Happy?] Be well - |
