Can't say clean or not but does anyone remember Brady Anderson of the O's? He had a year where he hit 50 and then nothing more than 24 before or after. Could be a fluke. Why couldn't he have done that when he was with Pittsburgh?

Ha!

Yeah Batista has had a max of 16, now 54.
It could be a fluke year of course but still, is a shame that if he's clean no one will appreciate it until next year.

Rumor has it that Russell is going to be out as Buccos manager. Talk about being thrown under the bus. The management goes on the cheap and acquires bad veteran players then blames the manager. Typical I guess. I wonder who the next minor league manager be that they promote.

On a brighter note Chan Ho Park set the record for most wins for an Asian pitcher. He said that he wants to return to the Buccos next season. I feel sorry for him.

The Tigers made it to .500 with their win over the Orioles yesterday.  They only needed to win 1 of their last 7 games in order to do so, and they came damn close to not doing it.  (Not that it really matters, but I believe that the Buccos fans would kill for a .500 season).  Leyland and all of his staff are coming back for 1 more season.  I'm not a big Leyland fan, but I respect that the experts say that he is a good manager.  I would however get rid of his 2 cronies Gene LaMont and Lloyd McClendon.  LaMont single handedly ruined the Tigers season by waving Magglio Ordonez home on a play where the 2nd baseman already had the ball.  Ordonez was out by a few steps and broke his ankle on the slide into home plate.  LaMont is a horrible third base coach.  As far as Lloyd McClendon goes, all you have to do is look at the number of times the Tigers were being no-hit going into the 5th inning or later to see how bad their hitting was.  Brennan Boesch was great until the all-star break, and was then the absolute worst player in baseball the entire 2nd half of the season.  It is the hitting coach's job to get that fixed, and he never did.  I really think that his head should have rolled at the end of the season.

I'm a Jays fan, but am just as worried that such an event would be either a fluke (though I doubt he could hit 50 consistently) or tainted by that which has tainted baseball for years.  I hope he's clean for the sake of the kids in Toronto that now look up to him.

The Jays finished with a respectable 85-77 record, which is great considering many experts expected them to finish last in the league with close to 100 losses.  I'll back the Phillies in the playoffs due to my appreciation of Roy Halladay.

I hope that they don't expand the playoffs like Selig is talking about doing. It is bad enough that baseball is now ending in November. If he adds another round it might go into Thanksgiving.

Imagine both Lamont and McClendon managed the Pirates at one time.

The division series should be 7 games. Five game series are too volatile.

So was Leyland.  And, last year Andy Van Slyke was the 1st base coach.

Agreed but he was talking about as many as 8 teams from each league being in the playoffs.
