In the Machine

Recording is going great for our upcoming debut CD.  We are shooting for 11 songs.  So far recording for the drums, bass, and almost all guitar tracks are finished.  Vocals are currently being recorded.  Doug and Corey are doing an amazing job and the vocal harmonies are turning out killer.  Once we wrap up with recording, we will go into mix down mode and then the CD is off to be pressed.

A big thank you goes out to all the support we have been receiving both locally in Colorado and internationally from our friends in Europe, South America, and Japan (and all the other locations as well).  Your support helps to fuel the fire and keep us going.

Stayed tuned for more studio updates.  You can also check out our progress in the studio by visiting our YouTube channel http://www.youtube.com/user/ITMband .  There you can view videos that we have been taking while we record the CD. Lots of cool studio footage, behind the scenes moments, and plenty of good times.

More info on the upcoming release from Tetrafusion

Tetrafusion’s blend of complex, technical metal blended with a highly-intellectual melodic structure offers an eclectic brand of progressive rock and metal along the likes of PORCUPINE TREE, RUSH, DREAM THEATER, CYNIC, TOOL, and MUSE.
Originally an instrumental band, the band released their debut record “Absolute Zero” to critical acclaim, which quickly launched the band into the underground metal scene, sans-vocals, along the likes of SCALE THE SUMMIT, ANIMALS AS LEADERS, LIQUID TENSION EXPERIMENT, and CANVAS SOLARIS, and was hailed as one of the top ten albums of 2009 by ULTIMATE-GUITAR.COM.
Also commented Mark Michell in a recent interview with EXAMINER.COM about the new release: "We really took a new direction musically. It's our first record to feature vocals, and we didn't want to have Absolute Zero, Part 2 with vocals over it, so we decided to just completely change our approach.
I think Altered State's biggest slogan is "substance over style", where as our debut was very style-oriented and straight forward. We definitely have our progressive, crazy fast heavy moments, but we took a step back and gave it a lot more atmosphere which is something I think we needed on many levels."

More info on the upcoming release from Darkwater

Darkwater was formed late 2003 in the western parts of Sweden. During the first years of existence they only did a few selected shows in Sweden while working on the material for their debut album. During summer and fall 2006, Darkwater recorded and mixed the album, and early 2007 a deal was inked with the Swedish label Ulterium Records.

"Calling the earth to witness" was released in May 2007 and received extremely good reviews from all around the world. Darkwater's perfect blend of melodic and progressive metal was something the scene was craving for, and while taking inspiration from bands like Symphony X, Dream Theater and Evergrey, Darkwater have for sure created a sound of their own.
In May 2008 Darkwater recorded and released a music video for the track "The play II" and in June they went did their first show in the US, at the Bay Area Rock Fest together with Liquid Tension Experiment, Jeff Scott Soto among others.

During 2009 the band parted ways with their bass player Karl Wassholm, and stepping in as  bass player for the band is Simon Andersson [ex. Pain of Salvation].

In April 2010 Darkwater started to record their new album "Where stories end". The famous Studio Fredman was chosen for the mix and mastering of the album, and during summer the album was completed. The band also recorded a music video for the opening track of the album "Breathe". With all the great reviews and response for their debut album, Darkwater surely felt some pressure to produce a great follow-up album, which they managed to do without any doubts. "Where stories end" is a master piece of melodic progressive metal, and will not leave any fans of the band or the genre disappointed.

I have, its a good album closer in soun to Cortical Tectonics than The Atomized Dream but with added keyboards. The shorter song lengths give it a much more frantic feeling than their other albums as well.

Mean Deviation; front cover

Fighting a tide of tradition and conservatism, progressive metal has proven to be one of the most viable, malleable forms in all of modern music; here its preeminent scholar tells the tale.

ISBN 978-09796163-3-4
High-quality 400pp trade paperback
Illus. w/over 100 images + 16pp full-color insert
Original cover artwork by Michel “Away” Langevin

< method=post =https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr>

Mean Deviation zeroes in on heavy metal’s more cerebral, challenging, and even geeky side.”—Ghetto Blaster

“Thank you, Jeff Wagner, for this massive information highway for all things progressive metal.”—Paul Masvidal, Cynic/Death

“We now have a definitive book on the relationship between metal and progressive music.”—Steven Wilson, Porcupine Tree

Revered former Metal Maniacs editor Jeff Wagner analyzes the heady side of metal in this exhaustive history of a relentlessly ambitious musical subculture. Beginning with 1970s progressive rock acts Rush and King Crimson, Mean Deviation unfurls a colorful tapestry of sounds and styles, from the “Big Three” of 1980s prog metal—Queensr˙che, Fates Warning, and Dream Theater—to extreme pioneers Voivod, Watchtower, and Celtic Frost. The flirtation between heavy metal and progressive rock grows with bold creative leaps, spawning countless valiant launches toward infinity. Today, the spark of inspiration thrives in obscure outposts such as Scandinavia, Florida, and Japan, bursting into full flame with the successes of prog metal overlords Opeth, Meshuggah, Tool, Between the Buried and Me, and their progressive peers.

According to Wagner: “Mean Deviation highlights many impossibly scattered bands and movements that widened the scope of the heavy metal genre. To some, progressive metal starts with Dream Theater and ends with an interminable stream of bands that sound like Dream Theater. By my interpretation, the term ‘progressive metal’ allows for consideration of cosmic post-black metal band In the Woods, avant-garde metal surrealists Thought Industry, and those obscure purveyors of corrupted Swedish death metal, Carbonized-along with more obvious entries such as Fates Warning, Opeth, and, of course, Dream Theater.

“One thing prog metal certainly is, is metal. Hard and bold and brash, but refined, adulterated, and mutated; it is heavy metal taken somewhere illuminating and sometimes bizarre.”

I am a bit afraid of this reunion, mainly because Dan Rock is not part of the new line up.
I am bit sceptical about Devon as the main songwriter. I'm not that impressed by Deadsoul Tribe.
Still I hope, that they won't dissappoint.Smile

Agalloch

Pacific Northwest dark metal legends AGALLOCH have completed work on their fourth full-length entitled “Marrow Of The Spirit”, the follow-up to 2006’s “Ashes Against The Grain”.
Image
Where the three predecessors to “Marrow Of The Spirit” (namely “Pale Folklore”, “The Mantle”, and the aforementioned “Ashes Against The Grain”) all differ from each other, the same can be applied with the new album as “Marrow Of The Spirit” is unlike anything AGALLOCH have ever produced before.  This is also the first album to feature new AGALLOCH drummer Aesop Dekker (also in Profound Lore acts LUDICRA and WORM OUROBOROS) and features guest appearances by cellist Jackie Perez Gratz (GRAYCEON, GIANT SQUID, ASUNDER, AMBER ASYLUM), Jeffrey Neblock (VINDENSANG), and Nathan Carson (WITCH MOUNTAIN, TWO-TON BOA, SUNN 0)))).

Recorded and mixed on analog through the means of exquisite vintage gear within the months of July and August in Portland, Oregon at Audible Alchemy Studios with (FAUST guitarist) Steven Wray Lobdell and mastered and manifested in San Francisco, California at Trakworx Studios with Justin Weis (LUDICRA, SLOUGH FEG, HAMMERS OF MISFORTUNE) the six time-stretching songs that encompass “Marrow Of The Spirit” each come across as their own distinct identities amongst themselves.  At over an hour in length, “Marrow Of The Spirit” is AGALLOCH’s darkest, bleakest, most dense, detailed and aggressive album to date and in turn is the most accomplished album of their career.

To officially be released in North America Nov 23th through Profound Lore Records, tracklisting for “Marrow Of The Spirit” goes as follows:

1.    They Escaped The Weight Of Darkness [3:41]
2.    Into The Painted Grey [12:25]
3.    The Watcher’s Monolith [11:46]
4.    Black Lake Nidstang [17:34]
5.    Ghosts Of The Midwinter Fires [9:40]
6.    To Drown [10:27]

WEST COAST TOUR WITH ALLERSEELEN ANNOUNCED

In accordance with the release of “Marrow Of The Spirit”, AGALLOCH have announced a West Coast tour with Austrian industrial/neo-folk/martial ambient act Allerseelen.  The tour begins on Dec 17th in AGALLOCH’s hometown of Portland, Oregon which will also serve as their record release show.  The dates with Allerseelen go as follows:

December
12/17 – Portland, OR @ Berbati’s Pan (w/Aerial Ruin)
12/18 – Seattle, WA @ Neumo’s (w/Alda)
12/21 – Los Angeles, CA @ tba

The Element

Progressive Metal Act, "The Element" is proud to announce that legendary producer, Beau Hill (http://beauhillproductions.com/), of bands such as RATT, Warrant, Winger, Alice Cooper, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Gary Moore, and Europe, is mixing/mastering the much anticipated album.  Beau Hill showed interest in working with the band a couple months ago after hearing the pre-production of the upcoming album.  We from The Element were ecstatic, considering what an honor it would be to work with such an amazing producer like Beau.

A quote from Beau Hill:

"The Element caught my attention with their excellent material, an unusual focus on arrangement details, and progressive-melodic hooks...sounds like the recipe for a hit to me..."

The first three songs were finished in August and the new single, "She's Made From Sand" is now available for online streaming on our Myspace page.

This is just one piece of the story that is told with our new concept album.  The band has been working on this project for some time and the chemistry between Rafael Macedo, Mitch Stewart (Circle II Circle), Jeremy Villucci, and Henry Moreno (Former Imagika, Taunted) has given way to some amazing material and it is definitely our best work to date. The album is currently untitled. The name of the album, song samples, and hints about the story will be announced soon.

A big thanks to our Fans, Friends and Family, you guys are the BEST!!!

Stay tuned!!!
