Crap! Missed Dean's comment before he removed it?
Edit: or not? How about one less suggestive but maybe more horrifying? I miss my long hair but oh god... Edited by JJLehto - September 10 2010 at 03:45 |

Ever been to a good ol' North Carolina redneck cookout? Here we are!
From left to right: My brother Jason, my dad (playing my Strat), me (playing his), and my uncle Danny on vocals (sort of). That microphone stand is a fan stand. My uncle also uses it as a sprinkler stand. That day it was a mic stand. And that kid running up there is my cousin's boy Jake (Danny's grandson). He's hell on wheels! Cool kid. Jake nearly turned the water hose on our amplifiers. Good thing his mama his fast. Speaking of his fast mama, here she is racing with my brother Jason. Dottie was always adventurous like this. When we were kids, I rode on the back of her ten speed bike and got my foot caught in the spokes. She wondered why the hell the brakes were on even though she wasn't applying them. God that hurt. And Jason wins with a little bump draft from a second cousin! Here's the band again. Here I am giving a full performance of Still the Waters. Psych. I sang "I Fall to Pieces" by Patsy Cline, "When the Man Comes Around" and "Folsom Prison Blues" by Johnny Cash, and "Statesboro Blues" and "One Way Out" by the Allman Brothers Band. My old man used a half-full beer bottle for the slide guitar solos. My boy looking downright American in a Radio Flyer wagon. His little sister is fat and happy in the stroller back there. 95 years of life. My great grandma Eva Maynor was born April 14, 1915. And yeah, she could probably kick your ass. She's holding my brother Jason's son, who's name is Edgar. Singing an old country song is my Great Aunt Lene. I forget how old she is but she's having a tough bout with emphysema. I swear, it was worth going to North Carolina if only to hear her voice again. She sounded amazing. I wish you could hear it. |

Oh those are awesome Robert! What a great day. What a gift to be able to share time with your older rellies too. My advice to all the younger folks here....don't take your older rellies for granted. One day....poof...they're gone. Take some time to sit down and really talk to them, while you can.
Thanks for sharing those Robert |

Damn right we're fun! We only didn't shoot guns this time because my grandmas get kind of nervous about it. But that's all right. (Not my great grandma mind you. She shot at a drunk man and his whore two years ago for trespassing). |

Absolutely Jim. That's kind of one reason we're moving back to NC. My wife has her immediate family here, but that's it. My entire family just about (both sides) is in a 40 mile radius. And I've already missed 2 funerals this year. I'll not miss another. You guys with living grandparents? Visit them. Call them. Write them. They are treasures and when they are gone you will not get them back. |

He was born March 1st of 1961. He works 2 full time jobs though. If he doesn't slow down life will slow him down. Amazing man though. Better guitar player than me too. |

Indeed, it always pleases me to see your family. You're happy man for sure. Speaking about your dad (one year older than my dad), were you thinking about asking him for help on let's say one track's guitar work ? It would be interesting. Or you can ask more vocal-talented people from your big family and do something like multi-vocal track. Seriously meant. By the way, does your family members loves Echolyn and Kansas as well ? |

There's a point where "avant-garde" and "experimental" becomes "terrible" and "pointless,"

My family literally knows nothing about prog rock. My dad got me into Kansas, but only because he played "Dust in the Wind" on guitar. Yes, I will get my dad to record a guitar part on something probably. He actually has played drums longer than guitar, but doesn't own a set anymore. |

It's unfair Rob. In my family there's no grandparents and now grand children... guess is time for my brothers to start getting kiddos...
But great pics Rob... I would love to jam along with my family but only an uncle is an organ player... the rest doesn't know nothing about music... Edited by jampa17 - September 17 2010 at 10:19 |
