Are you superstitious?

 

Atheists and believers in other religions might see Catholicism as superstition.

 

The Catholic Church considers superstition as sinful.

 

According to the OP, whichever way I vote I'm either an hypocrite or a sinner... another of those no-win dilemmas!

I see the paradox. But I really don't care about how various religions define 'sin'.

The second question is much worse. I'm not because I find dogmas repelling and hate the idea of 'organized' superstition.  Perhaps I'm somewhat religious in the sense that I can't really rule out the possibility of a god. But I don't have the need for one - so no, not religious. 

I'm emotionally attached to some hymns though, they remind me of dead people. And this is my favorite Johnny Cash record.

About religion and superstition. I find a statement like "I believe in god (be it any of them) but I'm not superstitious"  very odd. But again - it all comes down to semantics. 

The reason I invited religious people to vote 'yes', was merely to increase the number of yes-voters, so I wouldn't belong to (as I foresaw) such a large minority.  

Christianity, at least, views superstitions (like throwing salt over your shoulder for "luck") as much different from religion. No Christian would say Islam or Buddhism is a superstition unless they were trying to be offensive. A big difference is that prayer is directly asking God for something, and it may or may not happen. A superstition is doing something that will have an effect because of the arcane unexplained laws of the universe. I understand why an atheist would view all religion as superstition, but I hope you can see the difference between praying to a deity that you believe exists and trying to predict the future with tarot cards.
