Topic: Are you superstitious? Posted: September 10 2010 at 06:15 |
Are you superstitious.
If you are religious, please vote yes :)
Not religious, but I must admit that I consider myself somewhat superstitious.
On an occasion like this, I'd like to acquiant you with a recent experience I had.
Yesterday I was sitting on the outskirts of Christania (a freetown in Copenhagen, known for a very liberal attitude towards cannabis) overlooking the lakes and canals, listening to Aksak Maboul with just a little spice in my cigarette. A strange guy approached me. He had long thin red hair in braids, dressed in worn hippie-chlotes, was old and wore sunglasses. He insisted I was some guy from Sweden and that he knew who my mother was. That was untrue. He asked if he could tell my fortune in cards. I agreed.
The first card I drew was the six of clubs. That apparently meant nothing less than death, and from what he told me, I could just as well commit suicide. That was a little disturbing, but then I drew another card.
It was the eigth of culbs. The digit 8 has similarities with the symbol of eternity, which, according to what he told me, overruled the death thing.
The last card I drew was the seven of diamonds. Seven is a mythological mystery number and apparently it was some sort of 'wildcard', it could be anything. And because of that he said that he granted me with an (immaterial) implant in my heart, that would guide me through the rest of my existance in the best possible way.
He then packed his his set of cards and vanished. He didn't want anything, no money no nothing.
I'm not saying I 'believe' in it, but I'm somewhat grateful for my implant. :)

No. I think that we're all vulnerable to holding superstitious beliefs, but I try to minimize them.

Not superstitious, but maybe a little paranoid.

I am not superstitious. And to lay my cards open: I am a christian, but I am not religious. And as far as I still am without knowing this, I'm sure that I shall be delivered from it.
By the way, I won't put this to the test by getting involved in fortune telling bullsh*t .

I agree. Ultimately, I don't hold any beliefs. But the way my mind works, I'd hate to rule anything out partly because I consider it likely that the human mind is incapable of comprehending 'the world' in all it's complexities. Certainly, my attitude towards fortune telling is generally that it is a load of bullsh*t. Was it not for my spiced up cigarette, the setting and the attractive strangeness of the guy, I'd never have agreed.

No. Never. Don't believe in luck, fate, kismet, karma, destiny, forordination or predetermination either.
I like serendipity because it's a nice word, unlike happenstance, which isn't.

You were listening to Aksak Maboul and smoking ''spice'', but the other dude was a ''strange guy''...

I like serendipity because it reminds me of Salma Hayek.

This is a valid reason.

Maybe a little. I know one thing for sure: Nobody has had more black cats cross their path. Damn things seem to appear from nowhere.

I have a black cat and things are even worse. She treats me like furniture.

Acceptable if she treated you like a chair or a bed, but like a sideboard, wardrobe or bookshelf I'd probably be concerned.

You're asking me to sin?
Not religious, but I must admit that I consider myself somewhat superstitious.
Does that make you somewhat religious?
