Mmm, my bud showed me Botch tonight, I kinda liked it. Car Bomb are okay too. But yeah, the rest of metalcore is just sh*t, which is my main gripe with the genre.
Also David, I found another metalcore band you might like: The Psyke Project. I bought their newest album on an impulse because the tag said it was for fans of Intronaut, Neurosis, Mastodon, and Meshuggah. It's like halfway between Intronaut and Converge, check it out. |
We the Romans is in Decibel's HoF (also, soooooooo glad they put ...And Justice for All in there instead of Master of Puppets), so I would say it's definitely an album any serious metalhead needs to hear once.
And anything in between Intronaut and Converge sounds interesting. I've heard of them before but have yet to check them out. When does the new Intronaut come out btw? I blasted their most recent in my car for 3 weeks straight. F**king awesome record.
@Brian: Technically, Burst is metalcore, albeit probably really proggy. I know MMA has them under 'metalcore'.

Intronaut's newest is like October 17th or something. Definitely my most anticipated album of the year, considering how f*cking amazing Prehistoricisms is. Like, seriously, it was one of the most refreshingly original metal records I'd ever heard. Did you see the new single off of Valleys of Smoke I posted a while ago, David?

@Henry: I did not have a boner, because 1) She would have known and 2) That would have been a bit awkward. And Questionable Content is my favorite webcomic so I'm going to be naturally biased about it. Although I don't like when Jeph throws his characters into really big fights with each other. But that's what makes friendships stronger!
|
YOU CAN CONTROL YOUR BONERS!? Teach me how, master. And yes, I know that you actually enjoy QC for whatever unfathomable reason, so my complaints are lost on you, I just wanted to complain anyway. Although I could absolve you if admitted that QC is terrible but read it anyway: I still read XKCD even though I hate it so I understand. |
Old QC is definitely better (the first 3-4 years of it), but in the last 5 of so the quality has definitely dipped, I think. XKCD I read mostly because it's one of the main comics all my other webcomic-reading friends still enjoy. But it's gotten mostly terrible.

Yay Matt! And like I said David, the music I've heard from DEP is pretty kickin...but the god damn vocals. I should try their other stuff. Plus Burst And does anyone else like Shadows Fall or am I weirdo again?

Pictures for Sad Children is probably my favorite, at least it's the most funny. I try to read Qwantz but I always forget.

Yeah, I saw it. I listened to the song 5 or 6 times in a row. And given that only 2 metal albums this year have blown me away, I'm really excited about this one. Those other 2 being Blackjazz's Shining and Cephalic Carnage's Mislead by Certainty.

Although, while the art in QC is sometimes lazy, at least he's sort of trying. Randall doesn't even give a f**k anymore.

Shadows Fall is meh. But you don't lose any cool points for liking them. And I can understand the DEP vocals getting to you. Musically, they make some of the most mathematically challenging metal I've ever heard. Which is the main reason I like CI so much, as it's a hardcore version of a Meshuggah mathematical machine. I have a friend who learned 43% Burnt on guitar and it took him about 6 months to do so (keep in mind he has a masters in classical guitar, so that says something).

Get the Irony Is a Dead Scene EP they did with Mike Patton. That's the only thing I know from them and it's amazing.

Forgot about that one! Yeah, try either that or Ire Works next. Plus Mike Patton does all the vocals on that EP so it'll probably be more tolerable for your ears.

Will do! And yeah David, the music exploded my mind. That was one crazy talented band, musically. I will try their other stuff and CI again. Its been a few years, so maybe I can stomach them better.

I had that same problem. Listened to them originally right as I was getting into prog and I couldn't take them at all. But then I listened to them again about a year ago and it clicked almost immediately.
