Yeah, you posted that picture of that dude a long time ago. I guessed he was Marcus Miller. I failed. Edited by Epignosis - August 30 2010 at 16:26 |

I saw a documentary on The Funk Brothers. It was very interesting indeed. They also utilised a Vibes player. I've always had a soft spot for Vibraphones.

There's a story on that documentary about Jamerson turning up drunk in the studio and lying on his back and playing amazingly.

Don't know about the playing on his back part, but I did know he had a bad alcohol problem for a while.

I am intrigued by the "Basses Loaded" idea. It sounds like an idea that might be fairly unique. Not sure how well it would work, but it sounds like a cool idea.

Yeah it would be fun. Ah well, maybe we'll try it once I have my bass here. For now though, I must go to biology. Seeya later!

I've not heard his solo album. What's it like? |

It's a very minimalistic album. Not much like Kayo Dot at all, though maybe it has the avant-gardeness in common with Coyote a bit, though much more extreme. All the four compositions are incredibly frightening and there constantly is tension (at least I felt tension listening to it). The compositions very slowly move to a climax, or not at all... like when the sound of a crying baby was heard in the background, I really was fearing a sudden shriek or outburst, which the atmosphere suggested, but that didn't happen. Very, very scary but I loved it. This was my first listen by the way, with all lights and computer turned off.

I'm listening to some electro-acoustic improv thing I found randomly on Jamendo, it's all sax. Not sure I like it too much.

I like what I've heard, but it's never really impressed me. It's just good, not great or anything. |

I listened to all of Choirs on Youtube, and I've heard Coyote. |

I don't consider Coyote to be fantastic either. 3,5 stars I think. Choirs is a beast though. I think it took me some time to really get into it as well, but now it's a 5 star album to me.
Damn, I really want Dowsing Anemone. |

My only experience with Kayo Dot is Dowsing Anemone and it left me with no interest to look into them further. I've been told that I have to check out Choir, but that hasn't happened yet. It is on "the list" but not very high.
