Stonie, Lifts in the UK don't have door buttons, I don't think.

I'm pretty sure we just select the floor. I think there's an open door button but not a close door one. I'll check next time I use one.

I think he means the close door button. I read in the New Yorker that in most elevators it doesn't even do anything, it's just there to give the passengers a sense of purpose.
