I know!
How long did it take for the DVD to get from Squidco to you, though? I just ordered some stuff from them (was originally going to get that DVD and some other stuff, but then I ended up not getting any of the stuff I originally planned on ) and I'm hoping it gets here before I leave for school on Saturday. |

Ah, good. Plus I'm a bit closer to them than you are, so I'm guessing Tuesday, Wednesday at the latest. Hopefully my speakers will be in the same time interval. |

Well I just updated my Janis Joplin catalog with some of her live performances with Big Brother & The Holding Company from 1967 and '68. Just to remind me that every once in a while someone comes along who doesn't give a sh*t and just pours every ounce of energy and feeling, and wrings every last emotion into their music. Something that 98% of Prog/Pop/Country/Jazz has yet to learn how to do.

OH! You bought that Cobham album !? I just listened to that today, it's really superb though less funky and more improv and psych like Miles in some aspects, it's one hell-of a gem. Hope you like it!
How's the new Maiden? What did you think of Heavy Weather, don't remember if you told me or not. Edited by The Quiet One - August 17 2010 at 19:37 |

The new Maiden is great. I don't remember what you have from them, but if you like the last few albums (Brave New World, Dance of Death, and A Matter of Life and Death), this one is very similar stylistically. It has a heavy production, combined with progressive song structures and epic melodic heavy metal. It get's a from me. I liked Heavy Weather a lot! I've only heard it once (as you probably know), but it was a very positive first spin! |

^I'm not that fond of Iron Maiden, though mainly due to Bruce's voice. However, I do enjoy most of Seventh Son of a Seventh Son, an album I consider very Proggy.
I've heard stuff from Brave New World and sounded good, but it's not something I would listen to in this moment of my life, lol.

May not be prog....
But just ordered from Amazon: "Friday Night in San Francisco" with Al di Meola, John McLughlin and Paco de Lucia. Only heard part of it on the radio once but given that lineup....I find it tough to believe it'll be short of amazing. |

Filling out my collection of original Oils:
Midnight Oil - Earth and Sun and Moon (1993)
Definitely one of their strongest!
The Beau Brummels - Triangle (1967)
A little-known American folk-rock gem. A bit like Dylan, with more instrumentation.
The Pretty Things - Emotions (1967)
My second foray (also have Parachute) into a classic 2nd-tier Brit band who were little-known over here. Good stuff! String-laden track "The Sun" is gorgeous. Essential for your 60s rock collection.

That's basically the same thing my dad said about Seventh Son. He thought the music was pretty good, but he's really not a fan of Bruce's vocals either. May I recommend checking out their first two albums (Iron Maiden and Killers), both without Bruce Dickinson? They're more in the vein of 70's heavy metal/hard rock, but are very enjoyable albums. Check out my reviews if you're curious... |

^I have read your reviews, and they would have definitely piqued my interest 2 years ago
I mean, I still do listen to hard rock, but in few doses and I'm not really keen in delving through that territory anymore. Hope you understand.
Mind you, one day my hard rock spirit may resurge and might purchase them, knowing that your recommendations are always good! Edited by The Quiet One - August 18 2010 at 19:04 |

I completely understand buddy. I was really into 60's psych rock 3 years ago, but now I rarely listen to any of it. A few albums every now and again satisfy my cravings, but I have no interest in discovering new things in the genre. I'm sure most people can say the same thing about at least one genre... |
