My parents didn't watch much old stuff, but I've seen a few Abbot & Costello films. LOL

^ love them, and a few were downright superb, like A&C Meet the Invisible Man, In the Foreign Legion, or Meet Frankenstein

I remember Hold That Ghost pretty well.

I finally got around to seeing The Big Lebowski.

As with almost every Cohen movie I've seen, I'll say this: I liked it, but I won't have "gotten it" until I see it three or four times. Yes, even with stupid/absurdist type humor.

Laserblast

A low - and I mean low - budget science fiction disaster from 1978 about a teenager who finds an alien weapon in the desert that possesses him to kill his enemies.  Beyond bad, Laserblast was a desperate cry for help, a mental breakdown in slow motion.  Incredibly, I saw this when it was released and it hasn't improved.

Edge of Darkness - 3/4

Some good characters and great acting and direction don't make up for the pretentious story and plodding script, but the final battle does. Trust me, it's awesome.

Food, Inc.

The acclaimed film on the food production industry in the U.S. lives up to the hype in many ways, with an involving narrative of how the American agriculture system went from farms to factories - largely due to demand from fastfood chains - and the enormous impact and influence the handfull of food corporations have on the economy (not to mention the toothless FDA).  On the other hand, the documentary does not reveal many things we didn't already know about the disadvantage farmers have against big companies, abuse of livestock, desperately unsanitary conditions, and the relentless harassment of small growers.  An important statement all Americans should see, to be sure, but perhaps lacks the irony and power of a Bowling for Columbine or Super Size Me.

Food, Inc. had some interesting things to say but then decided that the audience was retarded and did nothing but weak-minded appeals to emotion. That segment with the diabetic Hispanics at Burger King vs. the supermarket is one of the dumbest things I've ever watched. Oh sh*t, a pound of pears costs a whole god damn dollar, if you can't afford the extra dollar then why did you spend $3 on soda at BK you stupid fat f**ks? And I'm supposed to feel sorry for them because of the music, and at no point does somebody point out that a pound of spaghetti costs a dollar. It's one thing to say that they don't have time to cook real food, but suggesting that fast food is ever cheaper than cooking your own hamburger is absurd. And then they rarely back up or explain the problems with the OMG SO GROSS things they complain about other than SCARY MUSIC! And don't even start with that smarmy organic farmer and his gratingly happy light country music.

Oh, and of course they neglected to mention that GM seeds produce sterile offspring so that whole thing with the guy and the seed collector was pointless. Monsanto is not a nice company, but you're the one who signed the damn contract...

Oh, and it was released in 2008. ;-)

I've just had something of a marathon (spread put over about three days) watching: Hausu, Az Prijde Kocour, Ovoce Stromu Rajských Jíme, The Funky Forest, Gummo, Sweet Movie and The Wayward Cloud. I'm in love with all of them to various degrees.

Hausu is one of the most wonderful films I've ever seen, eye-candy, insane eye-candy.
Az Prijde Kocour was life-affirming, really beautiful.
Ovoce Stromu Rajských Jíme is one of the most visually beautiful films I've ever seen.
The Funky Forest is just plain, good old, ''what the *ucking *uck is going on?'', throughout. Really wonderful.
Gummo was good, but not as good as I expected it to be. Still really cool though.
Sweet Movie was crazy and awesome.
The Wayward Cloud was at times beautiful, hilarious and kinda sickening. Really cool.

A Midsummer Night's Sex Comedy

Woody Allen's 1982 entry is a departure from his usual slick sophistry about six friends who spend a country weekend together and the sexually charged atmosphere that ensues.  Light and charming, Allen's eye for visuals and flair with dialog shines and a brilliant cast supports.  One of the best of a long and amazing career, A Midsummer Night's Sex Comedy is a painterly fairytale for adults.  Lovely.

You better watch more movies then. It's not even the oddest film on the list I posted, even though I guess that is a matter of personal taste.

The Expendables - ok whatever. I wish there was more Bruce Willis and Arnold (but his brief appearance was expected), and a lot of the exposition was just dumb. As a matter of fact, any dialog that wasn't one liners was kind of retarded. Stallone's Rambo reboot was better at just killing dudes and trying not to have action stars make compelling dialog. However, we are graced with Micky Rourke's half-lucid, rambling, almost-touching soliloquy about the horrors of war, which kind of makes you wonder if your perception of good acting is involuntarily morphing even as you witness it. The last 25 minutes were what the whole movie should have been--stuff done blowed up real good. Dolph Lundgren was particularly awesome because like Rourke, you can't tell if he's acting or just let loose on a stage to be crazy. Only with Lundgren, he actually gets to shoot things. Overall, these guys have all done it better in their own pictures, wich were presumably written better and filmed with more grace than throwing a shaky-cam off a mountainside. 5/10.

Fearless is actually kind of overrated. The ending was fantastic though.

Cartoon Noir - cool comp of various animation styles 7/10

Turtles Can Fly - 5.5/10

True Romance - I never realized what an exploitation throwback this movie was 6/10

Frank Zappa/Mothers of Invention In the 1960s documentary - nice detailed historical commentary on each of their 5 main albums, as well as pre Mothers activities 8/10

Communion - I probably would have liked this more had I seen it when it first came out, not so creepy as I'd hoped and the subject matter is played out and false, they approach the story in a unique way though, the ship scenes were better than I thought they were going to be...in a bizarre fantasy way 7/10

Shrek the Third - 5/10

Thirst - Chan-wook Park's vampire movie, easily one of the more unique vampire movies ever made, up there now with Martin and Let the Right On In, this was actually a pretty gross movie and made nothing glamorous at all about being a blood drinking creature of the night, 8/10

Toy Story - 7/10

The Emperor's New Groove - 6/10

The Crazies 2009 - started off okay, but way too many last minute save scenes, and there wasn't enough blowing away of soldiers like the original, played it safe IMO 6/10

The Runaways - boy did they give Lita Ford the shaft in this movie or what? she was arguably 'the' most successful member of the band in the proceeding decade yet never gave her an ounce of props, okay story some parts forced for cinematic reasons Im sure, 6/10

The King of Kong - now this was a big surprise, its amazing how they managed to orchestrate so much emotion out of a Donky Kong challenge, they sure made Billy Mitchel out to be a b*****d(which he's is), also a nice inside look into the world of Twin Galaxies and competitive video gaming ,, loved this movie 9/10

High Score - think this is where they got the idea for King of Kong, not as good though, not as complete, but a good blue print 5/10
