Really? I thought 1.46 would be well under par. My computer is quite old ( about 5 years old) Regards Virgin, NTL laid cables in our area about ten years ago. I believe Virgin took over that network, when NTL fell apart, so the cable network is available to me. Is that malware checker completely free? I'm always dubious of anything that claims to be 'free' |

^ But was your contract for minimum of maximum 2MB? That's important.

I have a 2mb connection, and I'll only upgrade with BT if they don't charge me any more money each month, and I don't suppose that'll be the case. For my line rental, broadband and calls they already charge me over £50 per month, and when you consider all my weekend and evening calls are free and that's the only time I make calls!) you can see I'm paying through the nose. Switching to Virgin would be preferable. Edited by Blacksword - August 14 2010 at 08:47 |

It's free...and may find stuff! I want to see what others think but 1.5 out of 2 is not bad I think.

That sounds a lot. I get the full Tv package (loads of channels i dont even watch) phone and 10Mb broadband for slightly less than that. Not sure my calls are free though but yoy can investigate that.

If I remember correctly is was 'up to 2mb' So max, I guess. As I said in my reply to Ian, my computer is getting old, and this problem only really became an annoyance about 6 months ago. Before that it was running ok. I have noticed though, that since switching to Safari as my browser, last week, I don't actually lose my connection, as I had been frequently with IE8. So, I think that switch has helped. |

It depends. 1.5MBps is his current bandwidth but that doesn't guarantee a certain speed, just the maximum. If you try this speed test it will actually put your PC to load a picture and it will take you how long it took and what was the actual speed: http://www.evoda.ro/speedtest/ For example the first speed test told me I have a bandwidth of 11.5 Mbps, but this second test showed me that the download speed I had for loading the picture was 0.2Mbps. |

Also, ping speed might me more important than bandwidth in the case of your problems. Try your ping speed here: http://www.pingtest.net/
I got B: very good; your internet connection should work well for any internet application. Some online games may not perform optimally. |

It detected over 600 errors! It was able to fix 110 of them. If I want it to fix the rest, I have to buy the package. I'll see how much it is. I'll see if what it has done makes any difference first. |

Try the free version of AdAware, Blacksword. Download it for free from www.download.com When it comes to anti-virus and malware protection, the best versions is actually free downloads (for homeusers). Both the very expensive Norton and McAfee is pretty bad compared to Avast, Avira and AVG. Windows own firewall is also sufficient enough. Install Windows Defender too. Wow. I also tried this software and it showed 0 infections at the quick scan. I guess what I'd do would be to reinstall Windows with formatting the partition that hosts it. |

I think I will explore other options. I'm very cynical of these packages. If you buy something like this and it doesn't make any difference, you'll not get your money back, plus they will probably make you subscribe and jump through burning hoops to cancel the subscription. I can't help feeling that the trial version is set up to only fix a set number of errors, leading you to believe that that is all the trial version is capable of. It's the difference between can't and wont! |

Hence, don't even touch this program with a bargepole. Stick to AdAware. All the big institutions/companies and employers in UK use this program (the enterprise versions). There is a very good reason for that. |

Sorry but Malwarebytes is a great program. Saved a PC using it and had no insistence to buy anything. AdAware is Ok but won't fix all problems.
