I'm open to suggestions on it. I guess I'm not sure with that particular aspect, but I definitely don't have a problem with a 6 year old being able to buy a gun, a beer, a hooker, and some meth.

I sleep on average about five hours a day.

I think we already talked about this. Yeah I support them all, production and consumption.

I think the real debate is whether or not your 6 year old scenario is actually more likely to happen without age restrictions being in place.  I believe that it wouldn't because, due to public opinion and the resulting complications that could occur, it wouldn't be a wise business decision to sell any of these things to any old 6 year old.  Also, morality does not fade away just because the government steps aside.  The government does a poor job of keeping these things out of the hands of children.  I don't see an self-regulated society doing any worse.

As for the sleep thing: Supposedly taking a 30 minute nap ever 4 hours is actually better for you than sleeping in one large chunk because it forces the body to enter REM sleep almost immediately.

I agree. I don't want a 6 year old to be able to procure any of those things. He should have the parenting to tell him not to do so. The shopkeeps should have the morality and common sense to not sell them to him, and for the most part this will be true (if you think the primary reason 7-11 doesn't sell a 6 year old a pack of smokes is the law then you're stupid). I just want to see it where a  child can legally buy those things.

Of course morality doesn't abscond with government's departure. That's never what I've argued.

Yes, I read that and I firmly believe it's BS.  You see it on Cracked too?  LOL

Six-year-olds would be dialing up the ACLU to deal with the stores' with ageism.  LOL

Woo! friends crappy internet connection got through!

So, gay marriage was legal in CA, until the people passed prop 8. It has been over ruled by the courts, so gay marriage is back on?
Wacko
Brings up the interesting notion of the courts and power. A lot of people, even if they disagree with gay marriage, have said that the court can't over turn the will of the people.
Sounds good, but isnt that the power of the judiciary?

Oi, I'm beginning to like the idea of marriage privatizing even more now...

Speaking as someone who wanted to work before I was fifteen and was forbidden to by federal law, yes, I think child labor laws are misguided.

I think they vary from state to state?
I'm sure there are some federal guidelines, of course.
I only ask because I know in NJ you could only start work at 15 (and very limited and difficult) while my roomie from PA was working at 14.

Unless they just did that illegally. LOL

Started washing dishes at an Italian restaurant at 13.  Great experience.  Taught me the value of hard work and earning one's own way.  Got to hang out with cool older guys and learn about girls.  Even if they can't work in businesses nowadays, young kids should have lots of chores and duties around the house to learn discipline and its value.  Of course, they should also have lots of fun too.

There's an interesting point. My friend Tony who's always been a hardcore libertarian (way before I even knew of Ron Paul) is 100% up in arms about that mosque.

...

OK, did I miss something. We don't need to get into the whole "not every of the one billion muslims is a terrorist" but also, what right is there to say they can't build it? Especially coming from a libertarian.

There are more terrorists in America than in the Middle East. They are better armed too.

We have to remember the wise words: freedom isn't free

I think everyone here can agree with those statements, far right or far left or in between.

(PS, if you have trouble seeing why you agree with statements you can interpret them thusly:

There are more Arab and Liberal terrorists in America than in the Middle East. They are better armed too by our own liberties.

We have to remember the wise words: freedom isn't free, you have to fight for it!

Or;

There are more terrorists in America than in the Middle East. They are better armed too. They kill millions of innocents and despoil countries in the name of "freedom."

We have to remember the wise words: freedom isn't free. Living Standards in the United States reflect great inequality and rampant poverty, the mass of the people have no say in political decisions, while one has right to private property, which most people don't have, while personal property is the domain of the banks (shelter), employers (food) and big industries (health).

(Note the lefties get more words because they are generally wordier- don't we know!).

May be a lefty but even for me that was a bit verbose.

The first 2 or 3 sentences would've sufficed LOL
