Well, 11 of the 15 most dangerous countries according to Forbes are either mostly Muslim or on the list because of Islamic extremists. |

So you think that Muslims are more predisposed to violence than other groups of people?

I'm a lefty, people have accused me of fighting against freedom ), but I will be consistent enough to recognize I'm not that happy with the proliferation of islam in the US... It's just a personal opinion though. There's no ideological framework behind it. I wouldn't fight or demonstrate against mosques being built, that is an attack on freedom of religion (which one day could come back to haunt us); but I won't say I'm extremely thrilled by it either... Let them build anything they want. I just wished Islam remained closer to the Mecca and farther away from the western world....

May be a lefty but even for me that was a bit verbose.
The first 2 or 3 sentences would've sufficed ![]() |

There are more terrorists in America than in the Middle East. They are better armed too.
We have to remember the wise words: freedom isn't free I think everyone here can agree with those statements, far right or far left or in between. (PS, if you have trouble seeing why you agree with statements you can interpret them thusly: There are more Arab and Liberal terrorists in America than in the Middle East. They are better armed too by our own liberties. We have to remember the wise words: freedom isn't free, you have to fight for it! Or; There are more terrorists in America than in the Middle East. They are better armed too. They kill millions of innocents and despoil countries in the name of "freedom." We have to remember the wise words: freedom isn't free. Living Standards in the United States reflect great inequality and rampant poverty, the mass of the people have no say in political decisions, while one has right to private property, which most people don't have, while personal property is the domain of the banks (shelter), employers (food) and big industries (health). (Note the lefties get more words because they are generally wordier- don't we know!). |

There's an interesting point. My friend Tony who's always been a hardcore libertarian (way before I even knew of Ron Paul) is 100% up in arms about that mosque.
... OK, did I miss something. We don't need to get into the whole "not every of the one billion muslims is a terrorist" but also, what right is there to say they can't build it? Especially coming from a libertarian. |

Started washing dishes at an Italian restaurant at 13. Great experience. Taught me the value of hard work and earning one's own way. Got to hang out with cool older guys and learn about girls. Even if they can't work in businesses nowadays, young kids should have lots of chores and duties around the house to learn discipline and its value. Of course, they should also have lots of fun too.

I think they vary from state to state? I'm sure there are some federal guidelines, of course. I only ask because I know in NJ you could only start work at 15 (and very limited and difficult) while my roomie from PA was working at 14. Unless they just did that illegally. ![]() Edited by JJLehto - August 07 2010 at 22:51 |

Speaking as someone who wanted to work before I was fifteen and was forbidden to by federal law, yes, I think child labor laws are misguided.

Woo! friends crappy internet connection got through!
So, gay marriage was legal in CA, until the people passed prop 8. It has been over ruled by the courts, so gay marriage is back on? ![]() Brings up the interesting notion of the courts and power. A lot of people, even if they disagree with gay marriage, have said that the court can't over turn the will of the people. Sounds good, but isnt that the power of the judiciary? Oi, I'm beginning to like the idea of marriage privatizing even more now... |
