I actually didn't mind the first game so much...
It was the 3D ones I didn't like all that much. Not that I've really played them... but I've seen people play them and I just don't like the premise of the games.
I abhor violence... why do I want to go around killing Police and pedestrians? As well as stealing cars, lorries, tanks and whatever.

But RPGs aren't inherently as violent. Besides, they're a fantasy setting mostly. Oh and they're tactical. I'm not saying there's not tactics in GTA, I'm sure there is... but it's not what I want to play.
Most people I've seen play GTA just go out and shoot people, rather than doing the missions that don't involve shooting people.
