I tried Meshuggah once and I found them rather tame. That's because I started my foray into metal directly with the most extreme stuff possible.

Meshuggah was the first metal band I ever listened to in detail, except maybe SGM.

The only metal band I've ever listened to is Maudlin of the Well. (Kayo Dot too, but they aren't considered metal anymore.)

I've been tempted to try out Opeth, though.

Hey, they like Comus. Don't see how you could go wrong with that.

Opeth will not disappoint. I can see why they like Comus because Opeth do so much acoustic folk in their stuff.

It's the opposite for me, but both are great bands either way.

Try out Damnation then go into their harder (actual) side: Still Life and Blackwater Park.

Get stuck into Blackwater Park, and you won't regret it.

Great song...utterly brutal. Did you perchance dream of mass murder?

It's crazy how they can go from such a soft intro into a brutal death metal track, and do it so well.

^ Yeah, also the interludes are all pretty beautifully composed pieces; stark contrasts to songs like They Aren't All Beautiful.
