I tried last night to record something fast and furious on bass, a la Ruins, but nothing acceptable came out of the recording session.  I can't write music if you paid me, and my improv skills are kind of lacking lately since I haven't gotten to play with other people more than once this summer.

Devin Townsend plays open C quite a bit.  It annoys me when I want to play something of his because I only have 1 guitar.

That's how I discovered Open C - covering Devvy's Hyperdrive for a school music performance

I've only got one guitar as well, although I usually end up leaving it in whatever tuning I play in the night before.

As do I, but I'm gonna get a second one at the end of the month to use for just standard/drop D and then use my current one for different tuning.

I should get another fretless to keep in standard tuning, then get my fretted 4-string fixed and keep it in standard and buy another fretted and keep it in cello tuning.  Those four, along with my 6-string bass, would give me everything I needed.  In fact, forget the 6-string!

Pretty rarely do I ever have to tune my bass to anything besides standard.  What else do you tune yours to, Jon?

Oh, and best of luck with figuring out the recording.

I'll be composing more nature/natural ambient backing tracks once I've finished my essay which is due in a few days.

I love the ambient, but so much!
Am I going to have to record some sh*tty metal?

Dont make me channel the black metal
*Runs around the forests shrieking*

And I personally keep mine in standard tuning always, I know....SOoooooo avant garde Cry
But if I did mix it up Im thinking drop G. Thats right, all the way done to the next G!!!! Shocked

I wanna buy a baritone guitar but also want a Hagstrom Viking and have 0$ in my budget for guitars for the next 4 years probably.  :(

I usually play in standard too, except my acoustic guitar which is always in whatever weird-ass tuning I was fiddling around with 2 weeks before.  Right now I think it's (low to high) GGCEAE.  It's fun to play with the unison strings on the bottom end for cool droning stuff
