None of the above.
I like Lucinda Williams & Kate Rusby a lot, lately.
Other ladies who loom large in my collection are Annie Lennox, Kate Bush, Alison Krauss, Sandy Denny & Maddy Prior.
Many are from folk circles -- lots of great female artists in folk!

From the list, Tori is my favorite. I got into her thanks to my girlfriend at the time. Pretty Good Year was the new release. I think it was due to the Kate Bush influence and the fact that she is very good at the keyboard. Think of your favorite officially prog keyboardist. She can play rings around him, whoever he is. Long time fan of Sarah. Got into her because I read a review of Solace that compared her to Kate and tried it. I think her first three qualify her for a place in the archives. Currently enjoying her latest one. Speaking one I tried due to being compared to Kate Bush again, Happy Rhodes (thanks Finn). It was like discovering lost KB albums. I've had Alanis' first since it came out. Interesting stuff even though she really didn't quite get the concept of irony. Laurie Anderson. She's worked with Peter Gabriel and Adrian Belew. A really strange person to avoid if you don't think humor belongs in music.

Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

This girl (she´s not a girl anymore, she´s passed 45 i think) has everything.
She has the piano on her knees, she has the voice, she has sensuality, she has presence, her music has everything. I first heard of her with boys for pele (still my fav), but little earthquakes is mindchanging, specially silent all these years - how many cigars i´ve smoked while driving and listening to that song......

normally I'd go with Tori, but Fiona Apple is really impressive as a pop artist so my vote went deservingly to her
