Yeah, that's it.

Or give the ability to buy training for a Weapon Proficiency for those characters (only one WP per character, though)

I'm not sure why you would want that...an attack point gives you the same bonus, but for all weapons.

That's why I suggested my alternative; buying training seems like a more reasonable option.

Or this.

And I would buy that guy but I don't have enough on me... I might if I win a bet though.  I don't like loans.

Oh hold on... so when they have no WP, it means they can use any weapon but still get a bonus?

No, it means they get no bonus.  They did not focus on a specific weapon in their trainings growing up.

A WP means a person spent a lot of time focusing on one particular weapon type.  Any gladiator can use any weapon, but using a weapon a character has a matching WP for gets them a +1 attack bonus.

That's what I presumed.

So then would it therefore not be possible to somehow make them proficient in a weapon at a later date?

Not that it worries me, as both of my warriors are proficient in a weapon.

Jampa's currently mid-fight with Snow Dog, I think - you'll have to wait for your turn. Tongue

I think you already have a challenge...

Indeed you do, you have to play David's first warrior that keeps epic failing.

War and Mei, two veteran warriors, step into the arena.  War roars as is his custom, and Mei greets the audience with some pole arm flourishes.  Then they charge each other.  Mei scores an intimidate but superficial attack, dodges, and then hits again, this time tearing the flesh off War's right thigh.  War howls, and in a fit of rage, nearly eviscerates Mei with his battle axe, but his bloodthirstiness is assuaged by the chanting of the crowd.

Victor - War
Loser - Mei
