You need a choice that says all of the above. HAHA. I can think of so many bands I love to listen to from each of those sub-genres.

I pretty much like all metal except for gothic and most black metal. Oh and "nu metal" though no one really knows what that means Can't really pick a favorite, so I'll go with the genre that got me into it. THRASH!

ain't that the truth
Why isn't post-metal an option? I would never call it prog metal because that would mean associating it with Dream Theater

I wish I didn't. The only nu-metal bands I like are the ones that aren't really nu-metal, people just say they are. (SOAD, RATM)

Since we're on a related topic...how "genre happy" are you guys? It kind of bugs me, so I consolidate. I have metal, thrash, death, prog, technical, alternative if it doesn't really fit into one I bump into "metal" or if its different and not really classifiable I just bump it into "prog metal" if I dont think its "alt metal" Oh and I do have industrial and black metal, but I dont really like those genres and think I may have one band for each...

I recently did that too, but with some exceptions. I put everything into whatever it's closest to in order to only have 5 or 6 metal genres

Good. I hate seeing these 9000 genres everywhere. For me I can accept lumping them together. Alternative is alternative. Primus does not need "funk metal" oh and I used to have LoG and Pantera as "groove metal" but again I bumped them into "metal" recently ok enough clerical work Anyone know Asphyx? Combo doom/death metal band. Really cool.

^ I think I have LoG under Thrash even though that's a bit of a stretch, then I have the classic "heavy metal" for all the old, subgenre-less bands (including Pantera).

Yeah, understandable. I could accept them as thrash. Stretch but not like "OMG Lamb of God is death metal!" And CZ, I dont know actually. I didnt really listen to music at the age of 13, just smash mouth and w/e was around No one told me about SOAD... I remember that much. Wait! I think I heard a song from them in Tony Hawk 4, and looked into them from there. EDIT: Just saw your post yeah "Shimmy" was in 4 and Im 99.9% sure thats when I first heard them
