As influence is very hard to judge (and would probably discount most of your list Gandalf) I've decided to throw in my list based on the other two criterion.
Agnete Kirkvaarg (Madder Mortem) Julie Kiss (To-Mera) Samantha Escarb (Virgin Black guitarist/composer) Sylvia Ericson and Trude Eidtang (White Willow) Simone Simmons (Epica) Anneke van Giersbergan (The Gathering) Mia Matsumiya (Kayo Dot/Tarta Lamb violinist)

Hey!
Please, can you vote for any women from my list instead of race in contriving another and another weird names?

You wanted a woman? Here I am - and very influential too . Just ask the people who line up to have their CDs reviewed by me ... Seriously speaking, I really don't get the 'marginal' thing at all. Prog is a marginal phenomenon in itself (and thank heavens for that!), and very few female prog artists are known outside our own specialist circles. The ones who are better known are mostly included in Proto-Prog or Prog-Related - Kate Bush, Grace Slick (of Jefferson Airplane fame), and perhaps a couple of others. Anyway, even if there are some great artists in your poll (Barbara Gaskin and Lisa Gerrard, to name but two), luckily there are more and more women cropping up in prog bands of every subgenre. Only last month at NEARfest I saw two extraordinary (and pretty, if you're into that sort of thing - I prefer men ) violinists - Karolina Mlodecka of Forgas Band Phenomena and Alicia DeJoie (née Allen) of Moraine. Marginal? Perhaps. Excellent? Definitely.

I voted for one before I started naming all the alternatives I had in mind.

I voted for Other before you added Christina BOOTH. She's been married for quite some time and Murphy is her maiden name.

I wouldn't call that progressive, but it's good.

I've never believed in explaining jokes. You either get it or you don't. And by the way, though there is sense to it, nonsense is common to humour, which is one reason why I find your post '89 tirades against music so damned funny.
