After I read this post, searched into older threads, and even when most people must believe I'm a fanatic Catholic, my first posts were precisely against religious Rock or Prog, this one is from August 11, 2005

Quote

I don't like Christian, Jewish, Hindu or any religion  Prog', even when I'm a religious man.

Musicians must be devoted to their art, they can have personal beliefs or disbeliefs, but music is not the right way to make propaganda to any religion.

A member of this forum (Jester) sent me a DVD of band from Israel named Eggroll and I assume they are jewish but the vocalist Lior Seker (Who has a great voice similar to Ian Anderson's) sings a cover of Supper's Ready and despite his religious beliefs shows great emotion in the part that says:

There's an angel standing in the sun, and he's crying with a
loud voice,
"this is the supper of the mighty one",
Lord of lords,
King of kings,
Has returned to lead his children home,
To take them to the new jerusalem

I'm sure many christian rockers would refuse to sing something with such clear reference to other religion, but this guy doesn't refuse to sing a part with an obvious reference to Jesus, that's the way a professional artist should behave.

Lets remember the quote by Hank Hill about Christian Rock (King of the Hill) to his son Bobby: Can't you see you're not making Christianity better, you're just making rock n' roll worse.

BTW: If you can, get the Eggroll DVD is very good, they make a wonderful cover of Starless plus their own songs which are great.

Iván

A couple years  later I posted one claiming that Neal Morse's album "Sola Scriptura" should have a label warning parents of religious  content,

Quote
Yes, he's free to evngelize wherever he wants, he may do albums if he wants to but this albums should have content warning, for example I wouldn't like my kids to receive subliminal messages of a concept like Sola Scriptura that attempts against everything I believe in and which I'm entitled to teach them about.

There's a section for Religious music, Neal Morse albums should be there for those who want to be evagelized and to warn those who really don't want to, that's also part of freedom of speech, the right to know what you're exposing your kids to.

I read USA books that say that evolution is only a theory as valid as Creationism (I believe in both concepts but not in Intelligent Design), if Christians are allowed to place this in a BOOK,. the rest of the people should be warned that this albums present a partial vision of Religion from a Protestant perspective.

Don't believe I say that because this is not Catholic, by the contrary, I disagree with albums that contain Catholic propaganda also, I believe music must be free of ties, that using music to preach is to turn art in a tool to transmit subliminal messages to minors and people who don't want to listen them.

I believe real music as art must keep a safe distance from specific religions and political parties, a musician may speak about his political ideology, but when mentions a party it turns into a jingle, in the same way, talking aboout spirituality if you don't mention dogmas of specific religions is great, I'm a spiritual person, but nobody must be forced or induced to buy a sermon with a costume of Progressive Rock.

Iván

a member accused me of being satanic LOL, he even mentioned that the post against Christian Prog was my 1,666 post LOL

Paradoxes of Prog Archives

Iván

BTW: I believe in this as I believed in 2005 and 2007

Maybe you had too much of those leaves they sell there in the heights? Tongue

Machu Picchu is too amazing. There amazing places in South America that sadly don't get the promotion in Europe and the US they deserve...

No Trademark, you weren't, your opinions were more oriented about freedom of speech rather than on Fundamentalism.

The point is that some people believe that because we are religious, we can't have a strong position about religious issues that in our opinion are not correct.

In NZ, a 15 year old boy has just survived a 16 storey fall. Says one involved in the accident, "It's incredible that he survived. God must have been with him."

What does this mean exactly? That everybody who has died after falling 16 storeys (or less) was abandoned and rejected by god? And why is god dropping people he's watching over out of 16 storey buildings anyway? To my mind this is just thoughtless grasping at reassurance and order.

Hi Folks...

About religion and more:

"We've taken care of everything
The words you hear the songs you sing
The pictures that give pleasure to your eyes.
It's one for all and all for one
We work together common sons
Never need to wonder how or why.
We are the Priests of the Temples of Syrinx
Our great computers
Fill the hallowed halls
We are the Priests of the Temples of Syrinx
All the gifts of life
Are held within our walls"

Temples of Syrinx, 2112 albun, Rush

I think is better to think by myself,  I will choose Free Will

Wink
