You are just wierd!
Nice explanation of your believings BF. I find it very interesting and has a lot of sense, I have heard many of that kind of believings lately. The good thing is that nowadays we all can have this different appreciation of life without been hunted. Well, at least if you don't live to close to Mike...

Fair comments Mike and understandable knowing your position. You state " You should also demand good reasons from your church to justify their recommendations on how to live your life, and what to believe"

I would counter that by saying maybe you need to stop seeking externally for answers from churches or books, sometimes the answers are already within you |
Who said that I'm seeking for answers from churches? Books - maybe, but when it comes to churches I'm quite sure that they can't answer these questions. But they claim they can, so I feel to be within my rights to pose the questions to them or their followers.

^ I was merely asking which real life things you've seen Occam's Razor being applied to.
BTW: You can't really use it to prove anything ... it's merely a rule of thumb that you can use as an indication which of several possible theories for any given problem is most likely true.
And @ the bald couple: I won't grace your childish campaign of ridicule with a direct answer.

I can't think of a specific example off the top of my head (except for your claim that that Occam's Razor falls in favor of atheism, which I think is silly) but it's easy to contrive explanations for things that are more simple than what actually occurs.

As usual you just wriggle. Well, Mike, I will tell you why Occam's razor is not applicable. I know you are a disciple of the big bang fraction. Well, what is the big bang? It is a singularity in space-time in which all the laws of physics as we know them did not work. Let us repeat this again: All the laws of physics as we know them did not work. The big bang being a singularity is contrary to one of the basic assumptions of science: That the laws of physics are the same in the whole universe. Now I want you to tell me how the principle of Occam's razor favours the big bang over a deity which says "Let there be light". Actually both statements are fully equivalent.

I'm with Mike. The Baldies are being ridiculously childish with this pursuit. To me it's borderline harassment, though Mike has not complained. If we are playing at looking up definitions then today's homework for the Baldies is to look up "boorish" in the dictionary.

Let's create a Dictionary thread... we put words and expressions we can't understand and someone explains the meanings...

Mike applied Occam's razor to a situation where it cannot be applied. so it is only natural for us to assume that he has misunderstood the principle. this is not boorish at all

Delivering mail is an abomination against humanity!!! Well, the bulk rate crap anyway... That and the political ads... I do get some nice coupons sometimes... Hey wait a second, the post office delivers the CDs I mail order to my mailbox. Can't have that... No wonder you hate the post office, you hate music...
