Just watched The Human Centipede: First Sequence
Definitely one of the worst movies I've ever seen, read the Wikipedia for background info.

I saw The Body, a thriller about the finding of the body of Christ. It's an old movie, not quite great in the editing and there are somethings in the plot that I dislike, not the ultimate in any single way, Antonio Banderas is not a great actor as well... but at the end is a good family movie I think... very polite and innocent. 6/10.
Change the program inside... Stay in silence is a crime.

I got a DVD of Fantastic Planet, which I haven't seen in years.  It's still fantastic.
Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

Brilliant movie about Ango-American political incompetence.

I want to check out the series The Thick of It, now.

Just watched this:

Truly one of the most horrifying and disturbing things I've ever seen. Insanely creepy and hard to watch.

Both are excellent.  I've seen In the Loop and much of the series of The Thick of It too.

If you don't mind all the swearing and can get into the comedy side of it, you'll love it.

The Others

A decidedly average psychological "thriller" starring Nicole Kidman with one of the cooler endings I've seen in any movie. It gets like a 2/10 for the first hour and 15 minutes, and then a 7/10 for the last 20, which averages out to a 4.5/10.

It's pretty cool, but pretty forgettable. Watch it once.

In The Loop is excellent but I think The Thick Of It is more replayable and more intelligently satirical.

That's because it's almost entirely located in the UK whilst the film (which isn't the same characters exactly, I don't believe) is much more International and so the political side isn't so nuanced.

My second haunted house movie in as many nights. The Changeling this time.

It's dated, bland, and hackneyed. 3/10.

I recently watched Sedmikrásky (Daisies), a Czechoslovakian New Wave film by Vera Chytilová. It was pretty fun.

Mm. The Britishness of the series is part of it. My main issue is that some of the war stuff seems to be vastly oversimplifying things.

Invasion of the Body Snatchers

This is the original 1956 version all the others are based on and is still as effective.  At only 80 minutes and intended as a throwaway B-movie (much like Casablanca was), it is a model of economic storytelling and tension-building.  Set in a small California town, residents begin claiming family members are not the people they know.  When a local doctor discovers the horrifying truth, he and a few others begin frantically trying to warn the world and prevent humanity from being consumed.  An absolute classic.

Interestingly, the first cut of the film ended with Kevin McCarthy's character yelling into the camera at the audience "You're next !!"  but was changed after test audiences found that too disturbing.  New footage was added to make the film a flashback and to suggest that authorities may be able to stop the invaders.

Just bought the new Rush documentary.

It isn't anything too new for Rush superfans like me, but it's still entertaining and interesting.

The rare bonus features and some obscure early footage really make this a winner. I mean, it's got footage of an 18 year old Alex Lifeson at the table with the rest of his family arguing about how he doesn't want to go to university! Who knew this stuff even existed?

Any Rush fans who don't already have this, it's worth your $15.

Persona by Ingmar Bergman. Stunningly beautiful film. A lot of emotion. I quite liked the soundtrack too, even though it wasn't featured that much besides in the beginning. When Bibi Anderssons character is talking about when she was at the beach, hot diggity daffodil!

AVP: Requiem

As the first Aliens vs Predator was reasonably okay - if lacking any of the class of either film franchise - I thought I'd give this 2007 follow-up a shot.  Multiple aliens crash land in Colorado and a solitary Predator (not unlike Godzilla and quickly becoming more hero than threat in the films) takes them on, helping humanity to defeat the slimy things.  Unfortunately most of the movie takes place at night during a power outage, making things so dark and imperceptible that any special effects, and believability, are moot.  Lame, dimwitted and unrecognizable as either an Aliens or Predator movie.  Well worth missing.
