Topic: Apples or Oranges? Posted: June 29 2010 at 22:00
This poll is dedicated to those who keep writing that a poll is unfair because... (fill in the blank).
When someone asks for a poll choice, they are looking for other members' preferences and opinions. Saying that the poll is unfair is not helpful, but I see it all too often.

Oranges are just delicious. But, with modern shipping needs and genetic tampering, they're just frustrating to peel (last orange I ate has 1/2 inch thick peel, not even kidding!)
Apples... I would say they're slightly less delicious, but ultimately much more convenient. I also find them to be more filling, and the natural caffeine content can be a lifesaver on hard mornings. On top of that, the juice from them is much preferable to orange juice, which I find just pales in comparison to the flesh of the fruit.

There are far more varieties of apples than oranges, and they're way more versatile. Apples are prog rock, while oranges are enjoyable but rather pedestrian blues rock with occasional interesting solos.
But pears are even better.

Apples. You don't have to peel them and you get to throw the core into a waste paper basket even though it's not really made of paper but the greenish or sometimes yellowish fruity stuff that apples are made of.

I'm an orange guy. I only like my apples cooked. My favorite orange variety, the minneola:
Maybe not technically an orange but rather a hybrid. If you like a nice sourness, these suckers can't be beat. Go for the smaller ones. You don't have to cut into these BTW, just hand peel, separate the segments, and eat. What do you know folks? I think we're getting another neck and neck poll.
I think this would be a good point to insult you freaks who prefer apples...

Apples, since I'm citric acid intolerant.
