A 9 as well.
I think the first part had some moments which were a bit too much. They shouldn't have casted Steven Tyler's daughter and they should have done the threat of the Nazgul a bit more subtle. They should have let some quieter parts in it. Still, it's quite good.
Part 2 is a masterpiece and part 3 is very good as well.

Really, best movies ever.

You call yourself a Tolkien fanboy and haven't read The Hobbit? What is wrong with this picture?

Yeah... I will put +1 on each of the movies according with your rate and it's interesting... The second movie is the best movie and it was basically the one with more changes in the original story... more cinema oriented I guess..

9. A fantastic adaptation of one of my very favorite books, but one point knocked off for lack of Tom Bombadil.

I'm surprised so many people are complaining about the lack of Tom Bombadil. He was one of the least interesting parts of the books, and was removed because it would ruin the pacing.

^Yeah I've got a friend who hates him too, despite loving the rest of the books. Not me though! Old Tom Bombadil is a merry fellow, bright blue his jacket is, and his boots are yellow!
(I mean come on, how do you dislike a guy with yellow boots?)

The presence of Tom Bombadil would've ruined the movie. It almost ruins the first book...
With less singing and walking than the books, I actually think this is one of the rare cases where the adaptations are more fortunate than the originals... The books are full of creativity and imagination but are slightly long and there are too many passages that... BORE. Also, the changes in the story work for the better in the movie. A few things pale in comparison to the book (the council of elrond for one) but in general better adapted the trilogy couldn't have been...

I rate it with 9 as I am never satisfied entirely with anything.... Seriously now, if a few mellow and Hollywood-like moments were missing, the movies would be absolutely perfect (now they are just perfect) Fantastic adaptation of characters!

I liked the movies, but the books are the books. So I'm rating with 7, let's say.
However, my recommendation (and 10 out of 10 score) for the old LOTR cartoon. That was...scary.

I'm giving it three rings. I really enjoyed the movies and the books are good, too. I haven't seen the movies in a while, though I have them on DVD. Anyone ever attempted a 'thon with them?

OK, I'll be the first to vote: "Never seen"
And might I add: "No interest"
