It's a bit unfair to start this poll early when we've yet to wait 10 more days for Demians album "Mute" to be released, although the leak is available. Still, my vote goes to it since it goes in many directions and work great for me.
2nd place goes for Anathema's "We're Here Because We're Here", while Ihsahn and Myrath fights for 3rd place although I haven't digested it all yet.

Yeah, that's pretty good.

I've only really heard Pain of Salvation out of these. It's a pain to try to keep up on 2010 albums when I'm trying to get into other genres. Especially when prog is so spotty. Any given album that's highly regarded I'm likely to be indifferent to. I might try Karnataka, though.

I'm pretty selective about what I buy these days, especially as I have a young family to support on a limited public sector salary, so I only have one album off the list, The Pineapple Thief, which I have enjoyed a lot. I do intend to get the Karnataka LP soon, but I can't really vote.

Other 2010 purchases for me are Hackett's new album, which is incredible, The Reasoning, a solid 4 star work, Asia's new one, and Gabriel's Scratch my Back, which I love.

If you're into some heavier stuff, then I think the new Vanden Plas album (the Seraphic clockwork) is the best album so far. If live recordings/DVD's are allowed then Anesthetize by Porcupine Tree is really top notch!

So far this year, I've mostly spent my money investigating jazz fusion from the 70's as well as old school death metal. I've neglected a lot of newer releases from bands I'm not familiar with, so I only have the new Pain of Salvation and Spock's Beard from this list.

I will get some more 2010 albums in the future. Embarrassed

Haven't heard too many off this list, but of the ones I have I like Jaga's and UZ's the most. Didn't realize that Spock Beard's album was out alright...certainly will look into buying that one soon.

Another I like alot is Negura Bunget's new album. And Frogg Cafe just released their new one, which I have been anticipating for about a year now.
Dig me...But don't...Bury me
I'm running still, I shall until, one day, I hope that I'll arrive
Warning: Listening to jazz excessively can cause a laxative effect.

It's a self titled debut ep consisting of Trent Reznor, his wife, and Atticus Ross.

My favorites of 2010 so far:

1. Spock's Beard- X
2. Mars Hollow- Mars Hollow
3. Unitopia- Artificial
4. Kaipa- In The Wake of Evolution
5. Pain of Salvation- Road Salt One

It's funny, this year I haven't gotten many new albums, but all the ones I've gotten have been fantastic (with the possible exception of The Black Rainbow by Coheed and Cambria, which just hasn't grown on me yet).

Spock's Beard, X, is by far the best for me. It surprised me how good it was; it is definitely the best Spock's album since Neal left, and maybe even better than some Neal fronted albums (which I can't believe I'm saying since I'm such a huge Neal Morse fanboy). I just feel the new Spock's Beard have finally found their sound and it's a good sound with just the right hint of their roots with Neal and a newer, harder edge that makes them sound more modern and unique.

For shame. Blackjazz is in my top 3. AngryTongue

My favorite album of the year is not a prog album actually. So far, I'd probably go with the Monitor by Titus Andronicus. I would recommend them to anyone who likes the thought of The Decemberists doing a punk-ish album. *Hopes name-dropping gets more people to check them out.* Embarrassed

I voted other therefore, but if I had to make a short list so far...

1. The Monitor - Titus Andronicus
2. Road Salt One - Pain of Salvation (It's the first PoS album that's excited me as much as Entropia.)
3. Blackjazz - Shining
4. Congratulations - MGMT
5. Year of the Black Rainbow - Coheed and Cambria

Any further down the list makes my brain hurt.
