^Yes. Some others are the riff from Trains reappearing in Sentimental. And Venero Para Las Hadas (or however you spell it) from Insurgentes sounds a bit like The Sky Moves Sideways Phase 1, er, part one (The Colour of Air)

I've just realised that SW re-uses quite a lot of his own riffs in other projects...
The riff which he wrote for the track by Fish called 'Say It With Flowers' is also in the song called 'Lighthouse' by no-man... The same atmospheric synth backing track which makes up the entire track 'Together We're Stranger' by no-man is used in part of 'Drugged 3' by Bass Communion... The little soft interlude in 'Anesthetize' (from the 2nd part to the 3rd part) features part of the vocal track from SW's 'The Unquiet Grave'...
It seems to me like he used the same riff in the hard/dark part of 'Cloudy Now' (Blackfield) as in 'Sleep Together.' I'm not sure, but it sounds pretty similar.
^ I also noticed The Sky Moves Sideways-like synth sound used in 'Veneno Para las Hadas'; sounds pretty similar.

Yeah, the Veneno Para Las Hadas one is pretty odd. Not sure if it was purposefully made to sound like TSMS, although both are great tracks.
Also, the lyrics from Wake As Gun I and Wake As Gun II later reappear as some of the lyrics for 'Pure Narcotic', although that one makes more sense as the Wake As Gun tracks are demos.

I just watched Anesthetize again... so good.
I also noticed something quite funny: Watch (during the first few songs of FoaBP) as Gavin gives the camera these evil little looks . It's just awesome.

It's official: this could very well be the best concert DVD (not to mention the greatest packaging and presentation) I have ever seen. The photo book is just lovely. Incredibly high quality snaps that are nearly as good (though not quite) as being there in the front row in person. Some of the pics seem to be from the Incident tour, rather than the Tour of a Blank Planet (i remember Steve wearing that t shirt with the screaming baby with 'LULU' written underneath, on their recent Aussie tour), but they're so lush, it really doesn't bother me. It almost makes up for me not being alive in the vinyl gatefold artwork days, having this extraordinarily well-thought-out packaging. PT give you the whole package. Not just the amazing music (that itself is worth the asking price alone), but the superlative visuals, and the stunning artwork, too.
The concert itself is pretty much flawless. Exquisite performances of many of my favourite PT songs, including Dark Matter, Sever, .3, Normal, Drown With Me, the list goes on and on. The setlist was perfect (although there's so much fantastic material in their catalogue that they could have played just about anything from their discography and I'd be happy), with the only disappointment being the omission of Stars Die . Even some songs which I didnt count as faves beforehand (Sleep Together, for one) sound so brilliant on this DVD. Wilson sings with a much more aggressive tone on this track than he does in the studio, and it really suits it. The harmonies between Wilson and Wesley are of course amazing. I loved John Wesley's version of the My Ashes chorus. Beautiful. I got goosebumps. And Half Light. Oh, Half Light. I had to hold back tears at that one.
Amazing DVD, and even better than Arriving Somewhere (itself a near flawless live DVD). Unfortunately, I have not watched the Bluray version yet (just the DVD on my laptop). I'll have to bung it into my PS3 and check that baby out.
Superb.
the shirt actually says "LULL", it's a experimental/ambient project by original Napalm Death drummer Mick Harris.
i also agree about the concert, fantastic from the start to the end. fear of a blank planet is very good live, and the older songs are perfect. the concert is great, but the real star for me here is lasse hoile. the photos in the book (that recently went for 300 euros on ebay) and the concert film are some of the best i've ever seen.
dark matter and sever are highlights for me, but sleep of no dreaming was a small dissapointment. it's not just as good as the coma divine version, good here too though. half-light sounds much more like a no-man song than a pt one to me but it's incredibly beautiful. strip the soul is energic and good but dot three isn't just as good as the studio version, even though it's good here too.
when i first heard that the film woud be filmed at 2 nights i though that there would be cuts and stuff between the songs, ruining the continuum, wich would not be something i'd excpect from steven wilson. however the film is edited so that it seems like single continous gig and that's a large plus.
some of the (imo) boring (only by porcupine tree standards that is) studio tracks actually turned out to be great live songs, eg halo and wedding nails.
songs performed but not included: blackest eyes, open car, stars die, trains. i can see why they didn't include these songs but i'd still love to see updated versions of them. well, you can't have everything.

I saw PT at the Download Festival here in the UK yesterday.
Unfortunately the earlier glorious weather had deteriorated to a torrent of rain by the time they took the stage. That however didn't deter a great many fans who surrounded the stage. However I was there for the previous band too (Dillinger Escape Plan) so had a perfect view.
The band had a few sound troubles early on but these settled down quickly and they were in top form. It was great to see such a large number of people who clearly knew the material well. As well as the more serious proggies that were present there were plenty of others who were going crazy during the heavier parts in the "mosh pit" at the front too, so PT are definitely appealing to a variety of music fans.
Given the time constraints of a festival unfortunately the whole of The Incident wasn't aired but it was a great set nontheless. I think the correct order was:-
Occams Razor
The Blind House
Anaesthetize
Degree Zero Of Liberty
Octane Twisted
Bonnie The Cat
The Seance
Circle Of Manias
Blackest Eyes
I don't know if any other PA'ers were there but this was a great performance .

Regarding Steven's darker vocals on Sleep Together, Anesthetize etc on the new DVD... I'm pretty sure it's a microphone effect, could be wrong but that's what it sounds like to me.
On a seperate subject, does anyone on here play any instruments? If so, what? Are you in a band? I play guitar and sing a bit, though I haven't mastered the combination of both yet! I'd like to know if anyone has been influenced by PT?
I've been playing for about 5 years, it's more of a hobby than anything else, I know I'm not fantastic but I can hold my own. When I was teaching myself, I realised that it was kind of boring learning and playing certain songs, so I just started to come up with my own, it's a lot more fun for me to do this. Anyway, I have had this one particular song that, after about a year of tweaking, I have finally mastered. It's quite amusing though, because the 'chorus' part is the chorus to 'Buying New Soul', it always sounded familiar to me but I could never put my finger on it. I have never even seen the chords to 'Buying New Soul', so I'm quite impressed! The song itself sounds like a cross betwen The Moon Touches Your Shoulder and Buying New Soul.

^It's definitely a mic effect on Sleep Together, although it still sounds pretty scary
RE instruments: I've played piano for ~10 years, and have been playing guitar for about a year now. Just this morning I was working out the chords to Every Home Is Wired Currently not in a band; planning on recording some stuff soon though. From the stuff I have written up, I'd say PT is a little bit of an influence, nothing huge though. I've also been playing Blackest Eyes and The Blind House lately, I was really surprised with The Blind House; a lot easier to play than I initially though it'd be.
Also, the chords for Buying New Soul are pretty easy to find on the net, although really hard to play for a noob like me

^Excellent Progkidjoel. I can imagine switching from piano to guitar is not an easy thing to do, both very different instruments. I started out learning the Bass, but without being in a band, it is almost impossible to keep an interest, you absolutley need someone playing along with you.
I have no musical talent, sadly, but I am great friends with my uncle, who is an obsessive muso with a gigantic CD collection and a dozen guitars! He's a proghead, loves Yes, Floyd, Crimson, Genesis, etc, and he's starting to get into the modern bands. He adores The Mars Volta, Muse, Radiohead, Opeth. I just got him into Dream Theater, who remind him of Rush. I want to convert him to PT. The way I shall do it is to say that Fripp and Alex Lifeson played on FOABP. I started with FOABP, and worked backwards from there.

Sounds like a great show Roj, I thought Octane Twisted was fantastic live, so much better and more intense than the studio version in my opinion. I'm surprised that they didn't play "Time Flies" though. Nonetheless, glad you enjoyed the show, they really blew me away when they played here.

Yup, I've been playing since I was about ten so yes, for twenty eight years now, though not as much over the past few years. I play keyboards and have played in several bands, we even opened for "The Dead Milkmen" once...yes, I know 'who are The Dead Milkmen'? They were a mildly famous poppy punk band from the eighties and early nineties. Still, had a great time in the band, here is a collage of us from a couple of gigs in 93.
To all of the new musicians out there, I can only say keep it up, the things that you learn and enjoy now, will most likely be with you for all of your life and provide solace and inspiration for a myriad of instances throughout your life.
Enjoy,

^ Very cool Roland!
Instruments: I've been playing guitar (electric and acoustic) for about 5 years now. I'm not Robert Fripp-amazing but I can play covers pretty well and I'm starting to get my own 'style,' so to speak. I used to have a Hammond Organ and I was pretty decent at playing in the right key to various different songs. I've played a few different keyboards and I definitely plan on getting my own soon. I can also play the bass and some mostly-simple drums and beats. I'm a decent vocalist, but that' all, lol.
As far as PT influence goes, I definitely have lots of influence from their music from the last few years of my playing. I love Steven's somehat simplistic guitar playing (though it can get quite complicated at times). I'm also equally influenced by King Crimson and Fripp, Omar R-L of the Mars Volta, and for keyboards I really like Richard Wright and Richard Barbieri. I used to try to emulate Steve Howe on guitar, but it got kind of crazy, to say the least (he's good...).
I recently downloaded a free song mixer, MIDI drum track and a multitrack recorder and I've recorded a few originals, but not too many. One 'Lazarus' cover . I was in a band last year, but I'm going pretty far off to college this summer so it's not looking likely anymore. In college I plan on recording with better equipment and possibly starting an experimental rock band. That's about it.

i play guitar, drums, bass but kinda suck at all beacuse i do not own any instruments so i almost never practice. i'm quite good-ish at drums, and can pull off a few porcupine tree songs (some of the easier on guitar n bass too).i'm still not very excited about playing a certain instrument, more in writing and producing music.
i have a band with a friend (he plays the keyboards) but we're quite passive since we do not have instruments or playing place, we only occasionally jam together. many of my friends play in (non-professional) bands so i sometimes jam with them too.
i woudn't say that porcupine tree is a influence on me but steven wilson in general is one of my biggest influences.i can't really say that i take influence from certain things though, it's more like i get influenced by everything i see, hear, read and stuff.
