Topic: Am I the only Pete Trewavas fan on PA? Posted: June 11 2010 at 22:20 |
C'mon! I never hear this guy mentioned in conversation on PA and he's one of my favourite bass players. Are there any other Trewavas fans hear besides me?

You're not alone. I think that Trewavas is a great bass player, kinda underrated in Marillion and in Transatlantic as well, with clearly a secondary role in both bands. But he has some awesome bass lines... Heart of Lothian is my favorite Marillion song mostly because of the bass line.

I've only listened to Pete in Marillion, but he's very good! Script... shows some pretty great stuff from him. He's got a very audible tone and I enjoy it.

Fan may be too strong of a word, since I don't really follow the guys career, but I love his playing on the Marillion albums I own.

Absolute Trewavas fanboy here!
Love his playing, his vocals, everything, really adds a whole other dimension to Marillion. His amazing bass work on The Whirlwind is also easily my favourite component of the band.

Yea.
Like I absolutely love his tone in Transatlantic's "The Whirlwind" and it's one of my favourite bass albums of all time. I really think the bass is often overlooked in that album. Just listen to "Evermore," and the instrumental sections of "Overture/Whirlwind" and "On the Prowl." He has some just great moments. edit: Looks like progkidjoel beat me to mentioning The Whirlwind.

Agreed ST-PT, I may be new to prog, but The Whirlwind has some of the best bass lines I've heard, almost as good as some of Yes' IMO.

In fact, I think his bass playing on all three Transatlantic albums is terrific - I love his melodic bass lines, and as mentioned earlier, his tone on The Whirlwind is great

You are not alone. He is a very talented bass player and musician. His work in Marillion and Transatlantic is excellent. He is just one of the musicians who seems to stay away from the limelight. He's also been involved with musicians who do get a lot of attention: Fish, Neal Morse, Roine Stolt, so he can unfortunately, get overlooked.

Very good bass player, indeed his playing on both, Marillion and Transatlantic, adds a lot to those bands.

No, you absolutely are not - the man is a genius and an exceptional musician. He's also a very nice bloke, as I can testify having had a pint with him in Oswestry a few years back.

Pete is among my favorite bassists, and he was a complete monster when I saw Transatlantic live a few months back. He is a key part of Marillion and Transatlantic, and a very impressive musician IMO.

I haven't actually listened to Marillion very much, but I know him from TA. Great stuff.
He also played bass on a song from Big Big Train's album The Difference Machine (my favorite album of all time). He did a very good job there, too.

He plays some good bass on the Kino album as well - he's one of the bass players I like to listen to as an individual player rather than in context of the whole band in much the same way I sometimes look out and enjoy Chris Squire's work.

Yea, when I listen to The Whirlwind I tend to put most of my focus on him. Good thing his bass is nice and clear on that.

Yes, Pete is an amazing bass player, and all around excellent musician. Go over to The Marillion Round-Table thread and you'll find more of his devoted fans. There are not may live shows you can go to where the crowd will often chant out a bass players name - " Pete, Pete, Pete, Pete,Pete..."
