Really? Radiohead? Hmmm... it REALLY reminds me of Meddle-era Pink Floyd, with Gilmour on vocals. There's a part in Meantime that I could swear is sang by Gilmour, lol. I really loves Steve's voice on the track.

Yeah, the vocals and instrumentation are interesting because its quite different from anything else PT have done. I hear Steve submitted it to a film studio, but they turned it down!

^ ... That's quite ridiculous! I love the song myself.
Another In Absentia B-side that I think is great is Chloroform... it's so eerie yet beautiful. I love when the chorus kicks in. Is it Maitland on that track? I know he's one of the composers but I wasn't sure if he actually played on the track. Edited by ptkc123 - June 02 2010 at 07:25 |

^Yeah, SW originally deemed the track to be too 'cheery' for In Absentia, and tried to get some film studios to pick it up to no results.
Man I'm excited for the live version of Drown With Me on Anesthetize; such an awesomely dreamy, surreal and wonderful sound. |

Not sure who plays on that track, would be interesting to know. Also, here's a fantastic clip of Maitland playing with Blackfield: |

The interview with SW on the Futile EP CD is absolutely fantastic, really great stuff. It's funny to hear SW say he used to think most metal bands were 'juvenile', and then listen to the heaviness on some of their newest tracks

Wow, I enjoyed that Blackfield song. I look forward not only to the Anesthetize special edition, but also the two Blackfield CDs I ordered (and the new Pineapple Thief album too, which I hear is pretty good)

Yes, Hello is a great Blackfield number. Aviv is a great emotional singer... with added bonus Steven Wilson on vocs and guitar, it can't go wrong. Plus, I mean, Chris Maitland... |

Hey guys, does any one know the story behind Chris Maitland's departure from the band? Just curious and I figure this would be the place to ask.

Rumours says that he didn't want to be part of the big music industry (PT was getting bigger and bigger...) and he wanted to write songs is own way... Remember Peter Gabriel... |

Yeah, I've found it really hard to find info on why Chris left PT... I assume it was either what you said rdtprog, or possibly he wasn't very fond of the heavier metamorphosis of PT... either way, he's still an amazing drummer and he's right up there with Gavin, IMO. |

^Yeah, maybe its because he didn't much favour the heavier style PT were turning towards. He left during the In Absentia sessions, right?

Musical differences is often the reason cited. See: Rick Wakeman- Yes, Kevin Moore- Dream Theater.

Yeah, he left during the sessions for In Absentia because he has a compostion credit, and he might've even played drums, on the track "Chloroform." |

PT could have made some really different and great material if Chris wouldn't have left. Not that their new material is bad by any means, it's just that if he stayed it would have been much different for them.

^LOL! Fripp was the only constant in KC, right? The lineup changed pretty much every album!
PT would have been very different today if they kept going on with Maitland. Not necessarily better or worse (I love their old and new stuff personally), but quite, quite different.

PTKC123, it's definatley Gavin playing on Chloroform. I agree, it's a great track that took me a while to get into. I absoulutley love the guitar break in the middle. I suppose the only reason it didn't make it on to In Absentia is because it is similar to Gravity Eyelids.
Anyway, my RED has been shipped, I would love it to be waiting for me when I get home from work today... I want to go home now actually, I can't remember the last time I was this excited!!! But that's not all, next week IEM ships!!!
