I haven't finished high school yet, but I plan on getting a Masters and hopefully a Doctorate later in life. Not sure what it will be in yet.

A PhD. can be a waste of time and money. My mom became a psychologist and stopped working because she made so little money that it wasn't worth it.

Exactly. It can be beneficial if you're going a very specific route, but generally it can be a rather risky move. Personally, I'm going to get my Bachelor's in Accounting and then a CPA, so I won't be needing anything further than that. I can't see where a PhD would be necessary in over half of possible disciplines, but it can be practical.

My cousin had a starting salary of $80k as a CPA and now, 10 years later, makes $150k. It depends totally on the job.

Not sure what it will be in yet. | Saying, "I plan on getting a Masters and hopefully a Doctorate, but I'm not sure what it will be in" reeks of getting degrees just to show people you have shiny letters after your name. Unless you have a very specific course in mind, anything more than a four year degree is taking a big risk in terms of wasting your time and money.
I have a BA in English. I taught high school for two years, then the county closed down our schools for lack of funding.
It was at that time that the economy took a turn for the worse, and I could not get any work. Either I was overqualified or employers were looking for experience- experience showing that you won't French Fry your hands, rather than a piece of paper showing you debated whether or not having a penis makes you man.
