I once made a concept album about a starry sky as seen from the deck of a steamboat. It consisted of relatively random harmonica tracks mixed together and slowed down to 40-50 minutes. I never published it because of the annoying pops and clicks that somehow made their way to it.

I’m in the process of recording Ashflame, a kind of opera.

ASHFLAME
1. The End (4:50)
A messenger tells Ashflame that he is dead and that he will relive the most important moments of his life.
2. The Start (2:39)
A doctor declares that Ashflame is born and that he is healthy.
3. A Parent Problem (4:11)
Ashflame’s mother (Ashley) loves her son so much that it borders to madness. His father turns out not to be his father (Ashley has been cheating on him), so he hates the boy and calls him "brat boy".
4. Born to Disgrace (2:45)
The infant feels trapped between his mother’s unhealthy love and his stepfathers hate and resentment.
5. Night (4:40)
Ashflame is a teenager. He’s got some romantic ideas and laments the division between him and "Nature".
6. Dreaming of Ruth (3:21)
Sexual awakening.
7. A Vision of a Mission (2:16)
Ashflame decides to be a writer.
8. The Writer, the Play and the Critics (9:04)
Ashflame writes a play. We witness the first night (the play is described in an instrumental interlude). The critics are mixed, but in the end everyone agrees that he is a genious.
9. Lament (3:55)
Ruth is singing. She’s Ashflame’s girlfriend now, but realises that it cannot last because she can never replace his mother.
10. Ruthless (not finished, probably 6-7 minutes)
Ruthless has left Ashflame. Ashflame blames his stepfather (Damon) and decides to kill him.
11. Afterthoughts and Permutations (instrumental – I have noe idea how long it will be, maybe 3-5 minutes)
12. Violent Night (around 10 minutes)
Ashflame tries to kill Damon, but Damon is prepared and kills Ashflame with an awl. Then Ashley kills Damon and herself.
13. Meaningless Conclusion (2-3 minutes)
Ashflame accuses me of ruining his life since I was the one who wrote it. The irony of it is that I also wrote his complaints.

Hopefully I’ve managed to find the right balance between drama, beauty and humour.
He say nothing is quite what it seems;
I say nothing is nothing

^ Thanks!

Here are the lyrics to the last track:

Meaningless Conclusion
Ashflame:
You had your will
You nearly made me kill
A sick inversion of a theme
This tiny civil war
It doesn’t matter anymore
I’ve left your morbid dream

Why should I grieve
as I’m about to leave?
Where I am bound you cannot KTEL
This dark and final kiss —
does it mean eternal bliss
or oblivion or hell?

I fought your revolution
to a meaningless conclusion
Split seconds last our lives upon this earth
What was my contribution?
A spectre, an illusion!
You wrote my life, my death, my curse
My birth.

NOTES:
The "sick inversion of a theme" refers to Oedipus Rex.

KTEL is a Greek bus company, but this is also a subtle tribute to a cafe next to their office here i Rhodes Town. In the song Violent Night I quote (more or less) Dylan Thomas, so I found it decent to (more or less) quote Bob Dylan too.

If you’ve heard The Writer, the Play and the Critics: The last stanza of Meaningless Conclusion will be sung to the same melody as the stanza, It’s all the way I planned it … only slower, and with a very different feeling.
He say nothing is quite what it seems;
I say nothing is nothing
(Peter Hammill)

And, btw, I will end with a classical guitar on an A major chord. How prog is that? LOL

Where can I hear this? I presume when you say 'If you've heard...' then you've released it.

Hi, Roe. When in Rhodes do as the rodents …

Here’s the link:

http://www.supload.com/listen?s=8fHrbG

It’s not actually released, but hopefully it will be. You willl find the links to the other tracks on the right side of the page. None of them are really finished, but I think you will understand where I want to get in the end. Have a nice evening!
