So I should hear some of those bands then? I watched a vid of Isis and wasn't too impressed though...

We're Only in It for the Money was one of the first Zappa albums I ever heard. And it's probably still one of my favorites.

Isis = Pelican > 90% of Prog Metal.

I actually agree with that, except Pelican is nowhere near Isis for me personally. The only metal band I prefer over Isis is probably Opeth....cynic is right up there too.

Except for Opeth, I'd still put Converge over the rest.

I'm becoming such a fanboy. Embarrassed

I don't consider it one of his best, but I still love it for personal reasons.

Out of the early few, Freak Out! is still my favorite.  Out of the Zappa I've heard, Grand Wazoo or Roxy & Elsewhere are my favorites.

Now I've been reminded that I need lots and lots more Zappa.

I'd probably say my favorite from Zappa and co. is Hot Rats.  Incredibly cliche, I know, but songs like "Peaches en Regalia" and "The Gumbo Variations" blew my mind when I first heard them.  Probably my first exposure to jamming as well.

Weasels Ripped My Flesh! remains my favourite from the 4 albums I have.

Yeah, Hot Rats is good too, I haven't heard a Zappa album I dislike yet.  Jazz From Hell is a tough nut to crack, though, but I like it now.

Oh yeah, I forgot about Weasels.  That's definitely one of my favorites too.

That's a great one, too.  I don't think I've heard a weak album by Zappa, but I usually avoid the lower-rated ones.

I've only got 4 (Weasels, Hot Rats, Freak Out!, Absolutely Free) but I'm fairly certain that all of them, except maybe Freak Out!, will get 5 star reviews somewhere in the future.

I liked Jazz From Hell the first few times I heard it, but I listened to it not too long ago and didn't like it as much as I remembered.

Aw, I loved Freak Out!t, even though it's not as high-rated here.  Certainly gets five stars from me.  I also think that Lumpy Gravy is tragically rated here.  3.3 on a Prog site?  BS!Angry

I'll be listening to Robert Wyatt's Cuckooland after this album is done.

Wyatt's great, even though I've only heard Rock Bottom.
