Day Six
Lion Music are delighted to have signed Dutch progressive rock/metal band Day Six for their new album “The Grand Design” to the labels roster. Since forming in 2002, Day Six have become a mainstay on the live Dutch music scene and won two major competitions in the Netherlands: the Metal Battle and the Aardschok Metal Bash. As a result Day Six have grown to be one of the most well known progressive metal bands in the Netherlands and with the worldwide release of “The Grand Design”, Lion Music aim to introduce the band to a wider audience. With a sound that combines elements from across progressive music’s history, the band have come up with a unique take on the genre which is equal parts dark and light making great use of dynamics and textures. Comparisons could be made between a fusion of Pink Floyd, Rush and Opeth where colossal guitar riffs collide and intertwine with synthesized textures for a truly mesmerizing effect. The bands live show is also winning rave reviews with the four piece of Robbie van Stiphout (Guitars/Vocals), Nick Verstappen (Bass), Dolf van Heugten (Synthesizers) and Daan Liebregts (Drums) wowing audiences with their spectacular live show. “Day Six – The Grand Design” comprises of 9 tracks and clocks in at over 70 minutes and it set for release on Lion Music on June 18th 2010. A preview sampler of the album can be heard at the bands official websites http://www.day-six.com and http://myspace.com/daysixweb.

(As reported in the main forum)
Vanden Plas
The new Vanden Plas album "The Seraphic Clockwork" will be released on 04 June 2010 by Frontiers Records. The 8 songs were recorded at Bazement Studio by engineer Markus Teske and produced by the band.
The story of the concept album was written by Andy Kuntz and tells about a journey in time. The protagonist, who lives in 16th century Rome, comes under the spell of an Old Testament prophecy. He travels back to Jerusalem in the year 33 anno Domini where he must face his God-given destiny. Stephan Lill about the new album: "I think that my preference for heavier bands shines through more than ever before. Heavy riffs, elaborate keyboard and orchestra arrangements plus catchy hook lines come together in a perfect symbiosis which marks Vanden Plas' characteristic style. I feel that we were much more adventurous on The Seraphic Clockwork than ever before." |

Short studio update from the Darkwater camp:
Drums are now recorded for seven songs, and Tobias is doing a really great job on the tracks! We'll finish the rest of the drum recordings this week, and next week we'll start tracking guitars. Thanks for your support guys!
Calling The Earth... was an excellent album, let's hope they can at least match it.

They have just blown me away.
Playing atmosperic modern Prog Metal and coming from Poland there will be obvious references to Riverside. Riverside fans should check these out immediately as should any self respecting Prog Metal fan.
The album is available at Rock Serwis.
Buy it, you won't regret it!!
For now enjoy the video.

Cynic
Taking their love for musical experimentation even further, CYNIC turn four songs from “Traced in Air” inside out and create four brand-new tracks for “Re-Traced”. This album furthermore includes the not earlier released track “Wheels Within Wheels”. Their exploration on “Re-traced” leads the band to what they call “sci-fi prog folk”, which is part psychedelic rock, part minimalist restraint. Even without vocoder or the traditionally busy CYNIC riffs the music retains its song structure, integral melodic sense, harmony and lyrical inspiration. There are no limits to the Americans re-inventing their own songs and shedding light on their inherent beauty. Follow CYNIC into a new galaxy of sound with “Re-Traced”!

Napoli, April, 2010 – A good four years after Vanden Plas last critically acclaimed studio recording, “Christ O” hit the charts, Germany’s finest Prog Metal act is set to release its brand new album: “The Seraphic Clockwork”, on June 4th, in Europe and June 22nd in the USA.
Highly anticipated by fans and critics alike, “The Seraphic Clockwork” is a fascinating concept album, which not only shows the quintet’s exceptional technical skills, but also highlights their impressive development as songwriters. The new album sounds more multi-layered, progressive and metal-oriented than any previous Vanden Plas release. “I think that my penchant for music of the tougher persuasion shines through more than ever before on this album,” comments guitarist Stephan Lill, who – together with keyboardist Günter Werno and vocalist Andy Kuntz – make up the group’s creative triumvirate. He adds: “Hard riffs, elaborate keyboard and orchestral arrangements plus catchy hooklines come together in a perfect symbiosis which marks Vanden Plas’ own style. I feel that we were much more adventurous on with The Seraphic Clockwork than ever before.” A perfect example which substantiates this statement, is the 13-minute track ‘On My Way To Jerusalem’, a little masterpiece within a homogeneous, self-contained album. The song takes the listener on a haunting, adventurous journey which comes full circle musically towards its end. From soaring piano sounds through hard riffs and versatile arrangements to atmospheric parts, the whole range of expressive forms which the Progressive Metal genre has to offer are present. On the other hand, ‘Heal The World’ with its melodic intro, subsequent heavy riff and catchy chorus, reveals the band’s affinity to theatre music and all its complexity, and is classic Vanden Plas. The band's fascination with classical history has left its mark on “The Seraphic Clockwork” particularly in terms of lyrics: the dramatic science fiction story of the concept album was penned by vocalist Andy Kuntz and chronicles a journey in place and time from 16th century Rome to Jerusalem in the year 33 A.D. The protagonist, after an apocalyptic vision, has come under the spell of an Old Testament prophecy and must travel back through the centuries to face his God-given destiny. “It’s about being unable to escape fate”, explains Kuntz, a master at making complex subject matter both fascinating and accessible to contemporary audiences. “Working for the theatre has definitely influenced the story’s depth. When you realize or reproduce your own projects on a stage, you learn a lot about dramaturgy.” “The Seraphic Clockwork” was exclusively presented to the journalists in a press showcase held in Koln, Germany on April 9th. Some of the reactions to the preview include: “Great comeback of Germany’s leading Prog Metal band!” Mike Borrink - Rock Hard Germany “Those who have been concerned that Vanden Plas might have lost their riff power over the last few years don't have to worry anymore: their new album „The Seraphic Clockwork“ is a perfect example for a well-balanced mixture of intelligent prog tunes, heavy riffing and the uncompromising love for hard music.” Thorsten Zahn - Classic Rock Mag Germany “They've made us wait but one of the best and most respected Progressive Metal bands are back with the heaviest, most epic and diverse album of their career to date. Awesome stuff.” Matthew Adrian Spall - Powerplay , UK “The Seraphic Clockwork" is unbelievable, fantastic, great music with a great story. Vanden Plas are the Prog Metal kings.” Marco Magin – Breakout, Germany "Intense, melodic and challenging at the same time, this new offering by Vanden Plas has what it takes to please the most demanding Progressive Metal fans." Morgan Rivalin - Rock Hard France The musical and lyrical complexity of “The Seraphic Clockwork” is certainly inspiring. Vanden Plas have proved again that they are the most imaginative and diverse of German Prog Metal bands and justly enjoy the highest international acclaim. It can only be a matter of time before this concept album also makes it onto the stage. “The Seraphic Clockwork” includes the following tracks: Frequency; Holes In The Sky; Scar of an Angel; Sound of Blood; The Final Murder; Quicksilver; Rush of Silence; On My Way to Jerusalem. Exivious
Not the best of news to start the week.
For the first time since the release of our debut album back in May of 2009 I'm afraid we have to bring some really sad news. After careful consideration we decided to officially pull the plug on Exivious.
It's not a secret that this band and the album we released last year are very dear to me personally, but also to the rest of the band who put in the best their talent and creativity had to offer to create something really unique. But besides our personal experience, we feel all of you out there who supported us the past year are part of our Exivious community as well and as such you guys deserve a proper explanation of what's happening.
We're in a situation right now where we are simply unable to give Exivious the attention and love we believe it deserves. All four of us are completely consumed by other activities and it doesn't seem like this is going to change anytime soon. So instead of slowly letting our beloved band bleed to death, we rather put it to sleep ourselves.
In retrospect, we were completely blown away by the overwhelmingly positive response from both our listeners but also the press who reviewed our album. Never did we expect to get such a warm and enthusiastic reaction to our crazy music. With this in mind we'd like to thank all of you who supported us by picking up a copy of our album in the past year!
As most of you know we started things off by offering a luxurious limited edition of which we only printed a thousand copies. We're happy to announce we're sold out! The digipack version of our album is still available through our website and a select group of retailers.
Last but not least, we'd like to end this sad message with some good news. For the first time in Exivious history we're offering a t-shirt in our online shop which features the artwork of our debut album! Pre-orders are available at www.exivious.net.
