John Albert Gardner III pleaded guilty today to murdering 17-year-old Poway High School senior Chelsea King and 14-year-old Amber Dubois.

The convicted sex offender is expected to be sentenced to consecutive terms of life in prison, without possibility of parole. As part of his plea agreement, Gardner waived his right to file an appeal.

Gardner, 31, admitted to killing King, who disappeared after going jogging during the day on February 25 at Rancho Bernardo Community Park. Dubois, an Escondido High School freshman, disappeared after walking to school in February 2009. In March, her skeletal remains were found in Pala.

I'm glad everything is finally answered. Still, his confession isn't going to bring those girls back. I'm glad they are locking him away for the rest of his life. One less lunatic on the streets.

My heart goes out to your entire family. Cry

The vengeance within my heart swells seeing that smug photograph...but my friend, vengeance is the Lord's, and I will continue to pray for the solace and eventual gladness of you and your family.

God bless and thanks for posting.

Consecutive life sentences is far too good for the scum, but I'm glad he's off the streets at least.

let's hope justice is served behind the prison walls, by his peers, may his eyes be wide open too.

Oh Brian I don't know what to say, it's unthinkable.  I am gratified we know what happened for sure.

Peace to your family.

I am glad you and Amber's family finally have closure, such as it is.  I had hoped for a different sort of closure for the person responsible, but at least he'll wreak no more havoc on the innocent.

The thing is if he had not confessed the police had not found any physical evidence linking him to Amber.  In my mind I believe Amber was his first.  He was way careful with her. He had stalked her and knew she walked the path she did. and destroyed all the evidence he could.    In Chelsea's murder he left evidence in Amber's he didn't. Still the fact he knew exactly where she was is enough proof for me.  The King's also had to sign off on this deal and we are very grateful they gave up the pursuit of the death penalty, which is a joke in this state, to get this closure for Amber.

Brian, I'm so happy for you guys that you *know*.   There is a family here in MN called the Wetterlings, their son Jacob was abducted over 20 years ago.  I've watched this family on the local news go through various stages of grief over the years, we all have, as they have become advocates for missing kids.  Not knowing for decades is almost like another separate tragedy for the family.  In this case, you'll not always have to wonder where Amber is.  I know its not consolation, but it beats not knowing.

As for smug boy, he's just lucky he isn't being turned over to me for disposal.  Because I'd take care of him for the state of CA at significant savings to taxpayers, and a punishment fitting his crimes.  It wouldn't be as easy as lethal injection, but I'll spare our more compassionate members further detail.

I wish you guys the best in dealing with this my friend.    I'll be thinking of your family and Amber.  Hug

All understood.  Again -- I hate to sound like some preacher -- may you all find some semblence of peace now.  And don't let up on your legislature.

Very sad for you and the families of both girls. I'm glad this is not getting drawn out.

A very cowardly and terrible crime. Nothing truly brings justice to this kind of evil.
You are quite a fine person, and I am very fond of you. But you are only quite a little fellow, in a wide world, after all.

My condolences to your family Brian, I wish them peace and caring.

And at least there is one less of these creatures walking the street. He's where he belongs and I hope he stays there.

As I said in the previous thread, nothing I could say can really console the situation.
Disgusting what happened, but as you said at least their is some closure. I fear that not every family gets that.

I'm torn between repeating my condolences at your family's loss and wishing you all well that the man who ended Amber's life (and those of his other victims) has confessed & is now in custody; this wont bring Amber back, but at least he's away from decent society.

Very best wishes to you & yours, Brian.

Yes this is very true.  It is the not knowing that is so dreadful.  We were watching a documentary a few months ago about Jaycee Lee Dugard.  If you don't know Jaycee is the woman that was found after being missing for 18 years.  When they showed a clip of a candle light vigil to mark her 10 years missing Stacy and I just looked at each other and shook our heads.  We cannot believe the trauma that would cause people to not know for that long.   Fortunate our family was spared that but over 1 year was almost unendurable. The really hard thing to adjust to now is no Amber related events on the horizon, no fund raisers, no vigils, no funerals.  It is now we can start the grief in earnest but we know there will be some relief as time will heal.
Fortunately this past weekend we had two wonderful concerts in different towns to attend that helped us get away from the TV and such.   The music of Transatlantic and Jeff Beck were very healing for both of us and gave us some respite from the grief.

Wow, rough stuff man. Unimaginable.
Well, with this closure all I can say is, one last time so very sorry for your loss. Time does indeed heal all wounds.
Here's to the best for you and all your loved ones.

Augh, what a bittersweet occurrence. The closure has to help, but still. Good luck to you and your folks.

I happened to run across this article in people magazine about Amber's mom getting to confront Amber's killer.  What occurred during the confrontation isn't included (as it shouldn't have been) but I thought it interesting to link here.  http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20368885,00.html
